Re: Helium/Trimix for Recreation limits???

OK-you got enough support for your reg. Just making sure. My wife started out with a Sherwood Oasis. For recreation, it's a fine reg. Take it deep and work hard, it's a little thin. Not necessarily dangerous, just doesn't 'put out'. So, the likely problem is.....you. That's not supposed to be an ind...

Re: Helium/Trimix for Recreation limits???

Let me muck this thread up a little more by introducing a new concept, at least new for some people. Dead space No, not the space you end up dead because of a stupid Scuba accident. Dead space is the gas that physiologically takes part in ventilation (air movement) but not respiration (actual gas ex...

Re: Helium/Trimix for Recreation limits???

There is certainly an individual psychological reaction to narcosis along with a physiological one. Some individuals have a reaction that make them uncomfortable, some like it, some (me) it just seems to make them stupid. I have a couple of good friends, good divers that just get paranoid if they go...

Re: Helium/Trimix for Recreation limits???

I think it would be good for someone to post what a 'recreational' tank of trimix (say ~100cf) would cost the average diver without some special arrangement with a shop.

Re: Three Tree N. night dive W/ Scuba Scott!

This also goes for using 1000psi to blast that drop of water out of your dust cap. Seriously, does it take a ear-piercing blast of gas from a tank to clear ONE DROP of water from the dust cap when a quick swab with a t-shirt or towel will do it and not awake the dead? Please use a towel (mini-rant ...

Re: Damp Feet

Cotol mixes with the aquaseal, thins it, and accelerates the cure. Basic directions on the can. Play with the mixture till you get something like thick paint for that application.

Re: Damp Feet

Marine supply over at Fisherman's Terminal has a great supply of wool and synthetic sox, from thin to humongously thick. I prefer the 'rough' texture of old style wool-mayabe with a little poly thrown in. They bite the inside of the boot better and slip around a lot less. Fleece is nice, but it's sl...

Re: Dry suit Gloves

I tried both open and closed methods. Hands are pretty bony-they don't squeeze all that well. So I just dive with intact wrist seal to any recreational depth and it's been fine. When I did try using an open wrist I noticed when I put my hand up, air moved in to it. But mostly we dive with our hands ...

Hmm, was last time I was there, right at the entrance by the gate. Been there a long while. Admittedly it's been awhile (fall sometime?) since I looked.

Re: Diving Jan 24th

DIW is going to be a zoo. Wasn't. Very quiet. No wind, actually warmer by the water than inland (frost at my house that AM). Only 4 divers in our group there and 2 more showed up as we were leaving. Pleasant N. current, 15' viz. 8 wolfies and ~7GPO-big 'uns'. Even Titlow only had 2 divers while we ...

Re: Three Tree N. night dive W/ Scuba Scott!

So, what's the night dive status, really? Seems there has always been a sign saying you couldn't do night dive (park closed after dark kind of thing] Rumor was that a local put it up to discourage 'riff raf'. Whether divers are in that category depends on your perspective. But the locals really DID ...

Re: Undergarment thickness

Warmth is all over the map but in general I'd say in the winter around here you can't dress too warm most of the time. If you are a warm person you may get by with less. I'm skinny, do well in cold air when active like skiing, and do poorly in the Sound (mostly inactive). I wear 4 (yes 4) thin layer...

Re: Upcoming meeting concerning Seacrest ferry dock

If you go to this site:
http://kingcountyferries.org/default.aspx?ID=15

Then scroll down a bit in the left window the material showing the proposed dock, work time frame, etc. is available for download. This was handed out at the meeting last night.

Re: Upcoming meeting concerning Seacrest ferry dock

Thanks for the report Bob. In all I saw 5 Marker Buoys, 1 Emerald Sea (Bob), 2 Seahorses, 1 other Aquarium member (Joyce and I overlap there), and the 5th-D owner Mark T. (couldn't spell his last name if I had to). I think this was in keeping with the proportion of W. Seattle residents present. I th...

Re: Upcoming meeting concerning Seacrest ferry dock

Mike would not likely discourage participation in any activity that pertains to supporting the diver environment. I agree that his comments were more to make sure people didn't get the impression that access was at risk. I've tried to be clear that this is not the case and still encourage people to ...

Re: Upcoming meeting concerning Seacrest ferry dock

Is this a CRITICAL meeting? No. No need of anyone to dump important personal activities for this. The one 9 years ago was. That only happened after about half a dozen of us harassed Parks and the City council a bunch. Took months of work to get that meeting. OTOH it is a good place to get your polit...

Re: Upcoming meeting concerning Seacrest ferry dock

Chris is right, I am being a bit snippy. OTOH what I see after a lot of effort over a lot of years is some divers taking any excuse at all of actually doing some work for the community at large. Divers do make the effort to show up for a night dive at Seacrest. Why is it so hard to show up around th...

Re: Upcoming meeting concerning Seacrest ferry dock

Gad, SCUBA is littered with political wimps. I appreciate that Mike R. DID take the time to call. Sadly, I did not. This IS an omission on my part. OTOH, I'm gonna pull a tad of rank here as I was doing this long before Mike came on board. I DID say this is NOT an attempt to take Seacrest away from ...

The internet is an amazing place. You really can learn an incredible amount here. OTOH it's a bit like being in a library where every other book is the 'Enquirer Magazine'. You have to have good filters. Good filters only come with a lot of experience and a lot of discretionary research. There is a ...

An undeserved hit is just that, undeserved. OTC cold medication likely had nothing to do with it. Instead of speculating on what DAN says it's worthwhile to read what DAN says: Pseudoephedrine & Enriched-Air Diving? http://www.diversalertnetwork.org/medical/articles/article.asp?articleid=51 DAN ...

Well, it appears there was a server SNAFU and I and my posting was wiped out of existence... Oh well. So, again, near as I can recall. First-this is NOT just a meeting for WSA.
