Re: Monterey Info?

Thanks for the info everyone. I had looked at the Pt Lobos reservations site but it required a buddy's name and cert # so I was attempting to find a buddy before reserving. I'll be there on Thursday so hopefully not too crowded. I'm going to call Seven Seas today and see what they can hook me up wit...

Re: Oregon Field Guide: Diving the Oregon Coast

We could do that. The conditions usually start improving out there within the next month or so. We dove Three Arch Rocks last year in late April. I'll take a look at tides. I'd like to take a trip or two down to Newport and Depoe Bay this year too.

Just borrow one when you're on vacation. You never would use it here.

Monterey Info?

Hey folks, I am headed down to the SF Bay next week and was hoping to do some Monterey diving. I was wondering if anyone had some good contacts, charters, guides, site information etc. from down there? I have never dove there and would love some input. My goal is Point Lobos if I can find a buddy (t...

I'd be up for a Clear Lake trip in June. I haven't been there since the trip in 08' I think it's time to return.

I'm pretty sure that the lack of substantially warmer water here (unlike the north Atlantic) in the summer prevents them from breeding.

Re: Thinking about moving to WA - where is the good diving?

Seems that way. A 5 hour drive, even in July is way too far to go to find a 12ft swell with an 8 second period. Of course the other issue is that there aren't any ramps where you need one. And the actual coastal wrecks have been beaten into a million tiny peices, the Andalusia isn't even on the coa...

Re: Thinking about moving to WA - where is the good diving?

The reason that the coast doesn't get much attention is that most of it is nonexcessable from the land side due to everything from long beach north being Indian reservations not to mention being very rugged and very wet. And being the graveyard of the pacific means its essentially off limits for di...

Very cool video. I actually used it to show my non-diving friends who always ask "what do you see when you go diving around here" the cast of characters at local shore dive sites.

Don Armeni ramp

How busy does this ramp get on weekends? Not during salmon season. I think every ramp up there is nuts then. I was thinking about this Sunday.

I was wondering if any of the coasties on the forum had done any ocean/bay diving in the last week or so and if you did how was the vis?

Awesome shots Bob. I think your doing quite well. That looks beautiful. Is the cavern zone nice? Also, off topic but, how many pounds do you use to keep those AL80's negative?

It seems to me like Redondo and TTN have never been the same since that big storm that tore them up a couple years ago. I rarely go to either one anymore because of the lack of anything to see.

The straps are sewed onto the flexible plate on the transpac XT I have. Maybe different on older ones.

Re: Transpac with ss backplate?

I suppose you could if you wanted to drill some holes and attach it with some stainless steel nuts and bolts but it would be easier to buy $10 worth of 2 inch webbing and make a one piece harness like this: http://www.divegearexpress.com/library/hogrigging.shtml for your back plate. That's all it ta...

They usually have hot water for warming your gloves and hood between dives and did you know they feed you too? Mmmmm, hot chicken noodle soup, cheesy breadsticks, fresh baked chocolate chip cookies - that charter boat diving is pretty rough duty! :smt064 I supply none of the above. Just water in su...

Re: Looking for buddy to practice a couple of drills with

One thing I recommend is carrying a spare mask. I always carry a small backup mask in a thigh pocket. It's easier to just reach down, grab your spare and put it on rather than signal to your buddy, get his attention, have them look for your mask while you're mostly blind and then hope they find it a...
