Re: Retired "showfish"

Amanda,

Sounds like an interesting article. I haven't heard of any examples for marine life, other than what you have mentioned.

Re: When in Rome... or selling used gear...

:threadjacked: A few months ago, I read an article in the Underseas Journal about a guy who died diving EAN. The shop never checked his C-card, and the guy had EAN tanks to be filled and they filled them; no questions asked. Apparently, they guy went too deep, got O2 poisoning and died. If I remembe...

PSL at Les Davis

I was finishing up a safety stop yesterday with a student, and spotted a Pacific Spiny Lumpsucker! It is my first OW sighting (I have seen them several times at Van Aquarium). No camera (of course, only see cool stuff when diving with students) but my buddy spotted it too. It was golden and just chi...

The best question ever answered.

I am putting together a checklist of Q & A for new divers. I was wondering if you all could help me. Think back, before you were certified. Other than, "how much does it cost?", What was the best question you asked that helped you decide to get certified? The key here, is to think like...

I am going through the insurance dance myself right now. (Thieves broke into our house the same day!) It is amazing how much all the "little" stuff adds up. It really sucks. So sorry. :angryfire:

When looking for a new place, I hope you can find one with a garage.

Re: What are your thoughts on a fill membership?

If you have an annual pass for air/nitrox, rather than looking at it from the annual/monthly perspective, look at it from the actual "fills" you get. :smt024 Let's use $12 per fill for nitrox, for example. If you pay $60 a month for an "unlimited" fills, then you would have to di...

Re: Need a PADI open water book

It is PADI Standards that each student have a current, PADI Manual or CD Rom, Logbook and either the RDP, ERDPml or PADI's guide to using a dive computer, depending on what the instructor is teaching. The instructor may require that the diver watch the DVD before the class starts, or it can be viewe...

Re: Eggs At Les Davis

I dove Les D on Sunday and I am happy to report that I spotted 5 different nests of eggs. Since I was teaching, I didn't have a camera with me. I don't recall seeing that many nests last year, so it is a very good sign that the population is getting stronger. We also spotted a very large GPO in the ...

If I had to guess, he feels like questions or criticism of his product are an insult to him. He puts a lot of himself into the products and when he is challenged, he takes it personally. I understand, but it sounds like he could be more gracious about it. I have heard nothing but good things about h...

Re: Good mask for Rx lenses?

I would recommend finding a mask you love the fit of, and either make sure it is going to be around for a long time, or purchase 2 of them. The mask will probably wear out before the lenses do, and then you can just move the lenses to the new mask. If you prescription isn't stable, then I wouldn't b...

Re: Closed on Sunday?

I know it may surprise many of you, but working in a variety of retail businesses over the last 25 years, Sunday is typically the slowest day of the week for retail sales. You have the least amount of traffic and sales per hour are very small. It never made any sense to me...I just figured Sunday wo...

Re: Should Nitrox tanks have the percentage clearly listed?

The most critical thing to remember is, however, that chicks dig bald tanks. Sorry Doug...this chick likes banded tanks. You have 25-30 tanks to fill, banded tanks make life easy when trying to figure out what needs air and what needs EAN. It is also nice when you have a bunch of tanks in the back ...

Re: Closed on Sunday?

Sorry everyone for being closed on Sundays. However, we live 6 minutes from the shop, so if you need an air fill, just give us a call. It is OK...we don't mind! We will actually be there most Sundays anyway if we are teaching classes, and around 9-10am for shop dives. The hours are going to be weird...
