Re: Anti Virus software - which do you like? (or hate?) - NHZ
Good choice with Avast. I've been running it for several years. I either recommend Avast or AVG to folks fed up with Symmantec and Macafee. They were good products back in the 90's but have become invasive resource hogs since then.

Re: Anyone going to the treasure hunt to watch?
Don't know how those will be distributed. My focus in the AM is to set up our booth unless I get turfed to other Expo duty. Clubs get complimentary booth space (not in the main exhibit hall) if they donate Expo help. So I'm just labor that does what they need doing if I'm able. My wife and I brought...

Re: Anyone going to the treasure hunt to watch?
I might have met a few of you today. I was the guy asking for your C-card and giving you your # token. I saw an interesting assortment of cards today from temporary OW1 cards to really old SSI. I thought the number of old SSI cards was surprising. I suspect some of the folks participating had not be...

Re: si tech dry glove o-rings
I sent a message with my problems to Sitech (anne sophie). I had an issue with their P-valve a few years back and found in general the shops won't touch a 'used' P-valve. Sitech was great and even sent some spare parts. They answered back promptly this time and Anne sent the message to one of their ...

Re: si tech dry glove o-rings
If you do use Sitech, do you wax or silicone?
Would that make a difference?
I've always used silicone, light application, cleaned and relubed about 3-5 dives.
Never had a glove pop off.

Re: Canon Housings - fixing sticky buttons
How much corrosion gets on the shaft after say a year?
Just simple lubing without cleaning that off would be of some value but ultimately the corrosion might wear the O-ring and lead to failure?

Re: si tech dry glove o-rings
sounds to me like operator error, try cleaning them and dawning them slower, don't rush Was operator error. I went through the hassle of the whole drysuit plug and inflate. The gloves being used have a tiny molding ridge that was channeling air. I thought it was mostly cosmetic but had more 3D than...

Re: si tech dry glove o-rings
I've got 2 sets of Sitech. My set has a leak failure rate somewhere around 20%. I think the O-ring pops out of the groove if you aren't VERY careful putting them on straight. Even being careful I have this issue. I've tried their recommended wax. That was just awful. I use a very thin silicone lube....

Re: RECHARGEABLE BATTERIES
It may depend on your use and expectations. I know the UK D rechargeables are Sanyo 4400 NiCad. I suspect the C are 2200 NiCad. For a standard bulb you get an easy hour+ from them. LED's will go longer. There is some evidence in AA that the new very high mA, 2400 and above, are not very good batteri...

Re: Sat Mar 7th Deception Pass (almost)!
Curious. What are you using for data? I use Tides and Currents 1.05. I'm not finding anything that gives me the data you refer to. I've only got 2 dives at Deception (shore) on extremely low exchanges so am interested in how to decide when to go there. Since I'm shore based that's not a day I would ...

Re: Getting seals replaced on a drysuit, where would you go?
Thanks for the praise guys !! I don't recommend doing the seals your self if you have never done it before. You will need a heat gun. The glue is heat activated. And the glue has a SHORT shelf life. Hope this helps. I do replace my own latex seals. Latex wrists are easy. The (floppy latex) neck is ...

Re: Input Please - This Feels Weird
I went diving 2 days after my father died. The dive was planned as a club dive a while before, I was the host and though I can't fully explain it I just went. I didn't even talk to people about it. I wasn't holding back, I just didn't need to share. I had lots of immediate family for that. It WAS od...

Re: Drysuit zipper
The zipper is set in some material and the material is glued to the suit. Is it the zipper (teeth and sealing surface) proper or the suit-to-backing glue joint? If it's the glue joint just glue it down. I'd check with a repair shop for the right glue for that but likely just neoprene contact cement-...

Bob Bailey was involved with this issue from the start and brought it to the forum attention. He had a lot of interaction with Tim and had arranged for a few folks to 'witness' the replacement. Tim did contact me with the time. Since Bob was in Bonaire he asked me to coordinate this with Tim but unf...

Re: Dry suit question
A good practice is to routinely close down about 1/2 turn from wide open. Some valves will 'weep' wide open. When trimmed out flat you usually don't need to close down more. On a vertical wall hanging feet down or if you are getting in that position a lot I adjust to just keep ambient pressure in. I...

Re: what kind of fishy ?
Yes, longfin sculpin. There are a few that are resident on the ~20' long boat at Cove 2 right off the line at 40'. Common on the Keystone jetty. Pretty fish, almost tropical if you shine a good light. Usually found clinging to a (near) vertical surface. Flit about in a small area. Tiny mouth, tend t...

Re: Mask nose bleeds
Tank air essentially has no humidity. Unless you have a full face mask you aren't breathing through you nose anyway. Don't see where that would be a variable in nose bleeds. In fact the more dehydrated, the thicker the blood, the less likely to bleed. BTW-it's nice to be ABLE to breathe through your...

Re: Mask nose bleeds
I repeat: You (almost) cannot clear your sinuses but YOU CAN squeeze them. Ear clearing does nothing for your sinuses. Nothing. Totally separate system. A VERY gentle valsalva BEFORE a sinus squeeze gets bad may (kinda, sorta, maybe, sometimes) facilitate a sinus squeeze. By far the best approach is...

Re: Mask nose bleeds
Shore divers,... a good boyancy device with a dive flag and a decent rope would be a nice subsitute. I just follow the contour up to waist deep water and stand up. Not too many boats at that depth usually. BTW-the anchor line is a great place to practice that buoyancy. You have a visual reference a...

Re: Mukilteo Lighthouse Park - NO diving?
Haven't dove that site in years. Stopped by today on the way home from Keystone. Very nice upgrade. Absolutely no notices posted anywhere that I could find that related to diving. Spoke with a police officer cruising the area, a Sergeant, don't know if that makes any difference. Quite open and frien...
