Lost Glasses at Muk T Dock
A kayaker lost a pair of eyeglasses at Muk yesterday in the area straight out from the access steps, probably between the training line and dome. I have his contact info if anyone finds them. My daughter also lost her mask during a surface swim to the oil dock - she did not get to chase crab with th...

Re: Sea of Cortez, Loreto, Baja California
We took the cheap route and stayed at Desert Inn (formerly known as LaPinta). You will have a better location, which is good as it will be pretty warm in August. Dolphin was great - just drop your gear on the first day and they take care of it until you leave. We left our dive bags at the dive shop....

Re: Sea of Cortez, Loreto, Baja California
Thanks. The octo was good sized for down there - about 6-inch wide at the head and about a foot or so from his eyes to the bottom of the head. While we were watching, it went to the other side of the rock and huddled in a depression while it was attacked repeatedly by a sabertooth blenny until it ha...

Sea of Cortez, Loreto, Baja California
Just back from a family dive trip to Loreto with wife and 2 daughters. This was the first warm water trip for the girls. We did five days of really nice diving with the Dolphin Dive Center with Raphael as our dive master. We picked Loreto because it is easy to get to and is a nice family-oriented to...

Re: Best Sunscreen for Divers? - NHZ
The Tropical Sands does not appear to contain any chemicals that would attack latex. Most of the stuff in in could be (and is) eaten. My wife and I did not get any sunburn, but we were beneath a canopy on the boat when diving. It relies solely on TiO2 for sunscreen. SPF30. We also found the REI suns...

Re: Alki Pipe Line 4/16/11 - Cancelled.
It is a long swim to the end. The buoy "way the heck out there" is near the end of the pipe. You just need to stay with the rock reef. The gnomes were still there in Feb this year. You can usually find some sea pens in the sand along side the reef too.

Re: Best Sunscreen for Divers? - NHZ
We were in Roatan a couple weeks ago and used Tropical Sands, made by Mexitan Products. We picked it up at the Dive Expo. It's supposed to be reef friendly and biodegradable, but it does contain titanium dioxide, which is not biodegradable. We only applied it about once a day. I put it on my nose an...

Re: dry suit advice
Another, totally different opinion. I had a laminated suit for my first drysuit (not a high quality trilam like Bare) and it worked OK, but I did not really like it. Lots of folds, not very hydrodynamic. I have had an Apollo neoprene for about a year and a half (~150 dives) and am very happy with it...

Family Chirstmas Dive Trip
I am looking to do a warm water dive trip with my wife and 2 daughters. My wife and daughters are fairly new divers (AOW, 30-50 dives). I've been diving about 2 and a half years (250+ dives, most of them in Puget Sound). Any suggestions on a good place to go (with hotel/dive shop)? Am looking at the...

Re: Alki Pipe Line 4/16/11
I've done this site about a half dozen times. Captnjack is right on for the times to dive - low tide is a waste of time. Most of the dive will be 20-30 ft. No boat traffic when I've been there, but there is potential. Nice dive for the rock reef and small critters. You need to take a reading on the ...

Re: Forget Rebreathers... I want some of these!
Why not just put some of these puppies into your drysuit and get your oxygen (and reject your CO2) from the water? 4 hours is way too short a time.

Re: Only 8 Dives Left To Go!!!
Porpoise Bay Charters on the Sunshine Coast of BC. They have some great dives. If you can hitthe tides right, you can do dive in Skookumchuck Narrows. There are tidal rapids there and have incredible life on the rocks. You have about a half hour window to dive at "slack". Would require an ...

Re: How to go about contacting DAN for dive related injury?
According to my DAN Handbook, you can call the DAN Hotline at 1-919-684-8111 or 1-919-684-4326 for "all suspected diving injuries". Sounds like it may be worth calling before you go to the hospital.
Good luck. Hope it is not too serious.

Underwater Sports can be a good place for certification. You can select your instructor from those available. I certified with Mark Emery - Master PADI instructor and a great teacher. I learned from him a little over 2 yrs ago and dive with him regularly - am up to 240 dives, most of them up here. I...

Re: Straight out of "The Abyss"
You would get the liquid out of you lungs by letting it become a gas. The beauty of perfluorocarbons (think freon) is that they are a gas at low pressures and a liquid when under sufficient pressure. The liquid you would be breathing at depth would become a gas near the surface. The scary thing to m...

Re: Wetsuit Advice for a new diver
Not sure of your size, but there is a L Apollo that just came onto Craigslist Seattle tonight for $95. Needs new seals. That would be a good dry suit for around $200. I am 5'11.5" and 180 and have plenty of room. It could go a bit taller.
