Re: Focus lights - what do you use?
I dove for years with a $30 PrincetonTec Xenon as my focus light with an actual piece of milk carton attached with Electrical Tape. It's a decent solution and it works really well. They will flood once in a while, but at $30 a shot you can buy a 6-pack.

Re: Focus lights - what do you use?
I just bought a Light & Motion Sola 1200 at the Dive Expo last weekend. I had a chance a dive it for the first time this weekend and it is awesome! See: http://www.uwimaging.com/sola1200d.html The light is TINY and quite amazing. It does up to a 1200 lumen flood for spotting, but switches to a s...

If you can say "Clam Sp00ging time" then I think "Fecund" seems pretty family friendly.

A fecund and fertile dive at KVI
I had the pleasure of doing two beautiful and sunny dives at KVI on Sunday courtesy of Bandito Charters. Great conditions above and below. Pretty good vis of 20' and lots of light and emerald green waters. Plus the first dive of the morning happened to be the height of Anemonie Sperm Release! The wh...

Re: KISS GEM semi closed loop system
I saw this today as well, and have read about it for a few months. Craig told me that the ExtendAir's are around $25 each and should be good for a full 4 hours of diving. This is in line with my experience using a Kiss CCR where you can get 3-4 hours on a 5lbs cannister of snofolime. The cost is sim...

I saw a presentation from Doubilet a few years ago as part of the National Geographic Live series in Seattle. He is a really good lecturer and funny too. Amazing photographer and adventurer. I'll put this on my calendar for sure.

Re: Dive Operator suggestions for Roatan?
Second the nomination for CoCoView. I've been there at least 3 times and had a great trip every time. It's the ultimate in easy, roll out of bed and into the water sort of trip. Nothing too fancy, but clean and comfortable. Plus you can literally dive your brains out! Five dives a day are not uncomm...

Browning Pass by way of Nanaimo - Video & Photos
Our big dive trip for the second half of the year was a visit to Browning Pass by way of Nanaimo. Our group headed up to Nanaimo for a weekend of diving before moving on to God's Pocket up in Browning Pass for another 5 days of diving. This is a great way to break up what is otherwise a 12 hour jour...

South Sound Octo Encounters
With all the great vis during late fall and the bounty of Octo's last year there sure have been a lot of great photos and videos posted here on NWDC! I had a few great critter encounters at the end of the year that I thought were worth sharing. In November I went out for a nice Bandito dive hitting ...

Re: NiMh C cells for Light Cannon
I used the same set of 4500 mAh cells for years in a Light Cannon with great results. I have a Radio Shack AAA-C cell smart charger that works well with the set. The Light Cannon was easily good for 3 hours+ on these batteries, which I think I bought online from Battery Junction. That is until the c...

Re: Operator recommendations "around" Nanaimo
I can also recommend Sundown Diving. Ed is a real pro and I've dove with his operation many times, as recently as October this year. He can field two boats if the group is large enough. It's a good setup. They have their base on the pier with a compressor and gear shed and a cozy warm "kitchen&...

I try to put a label with my name and phone # on all my scuba and camera gear. Put a lable on your camera inside the housing for best results. At least then a well intentioned person can contact you when they find it. Pick up a $20 label maker and go nuts!

I just searched for this IST T101 rechargeable you mention. It looks exactly like the Nocturnal SLX 800. Only it's 660 lumens vs 800 lumens. I wonder if they are re-branding the nocturnal or sourcing from the same factory. The Nocturnal light is fantastic by the way. Solid, reliable, easily burns fo...

Wow, great video as always!
I am curious what video setup you are using? I am looking for a new video rig for my wife that I might like to experiment with. So what are you shooting with, and what do you like/dislike about it?
Thanks!

Re: God's Pocket - Vancouver Island by Doug Ebersole
I'd headed for God's Pocket on Oct 17th after a weekend in Nanaimo diving the wrecks. I love Port Hardy and go every year, but this will be my first time since about 2004 at God's Pocket. Really looking forward to the diving, the beautiful surroundings, and the remote peaceful location.
