Re: How do I get a nice green background?
You need to control three variables to get the exposure you are looking for. 1) Shutter Speed This is going to be you Best (not only) variable for background color. A slower shutter speed (1/30 - 1/60) is best for green water shots. The longer the shutter is open, the more light will spill in to exp...

Thanks for the advice. I tried it in my room and I think your approach may do the trick. I will give it a shot and see how it works.

Re: Canon G10 + Ikelite Setup + Focus Light Question
Is AV mode Appeture Priority on the G10? I'd suggest that you don't use that and switch to manual. In Appeture Priority, you set the f-stop but the camera sets the shutter based on available light. It's not going to have an accurate measure in the dark water and will probably result in a long exposu...

I got a rebreather a couple of years ago (Sport KISS) because I am an enthusiast, photographer, and like to learn new stuff. It's a great way to learn more about diving and gain new skills (Chicks loves guys with skills... :bounce: ) My wife decided to make the plunge as well at the beginning of the...

Re: I rebreathed
Saddly, I am extra slobbery. A critical step after every dive is to dump the excess juices from the exhale side of the loop. I think there is a note in the TDI training book that says you are supposed to dump in on your dive buddies boot for best results! :huge: Welcome to the wonder world of rebrea...

The Philippines is hopefully our next dive destimation so thanks for the report. Great photos; you've got some great wide angle lens. What are you shooting with? Loved the cuttlefish with it's tongue? extended getting a bite to eat. Beautiful photography, beautiful destination. I'm glad you liked t...

Great report and pictures. The magnifying glass is a great idea. I'm going to have to try that! -Ben My wife really liked the magnifier. It was my first time trying one. You get good magnification and some extra distance when viewing tiny subjects. I bought two of them for about $25 including shipp...

Nice pix! We enjoyed our visit there too --I think it was like 2 weeks before yours. Ed Robinson's is a great dive outfit; our trip ruled! But we didn't get to dive the backwall which we wanted too....from your pix, it looked pretty neat. I went to Maui years ago right after my wife got certified, ...

Philippines Trip Report & Photos
I got home from my first dive trip to the south pacific last weekend and wanted a share part of the experience. My brother-in-law was getting married in Hong Kong, and we decided a add a week of diving in some location nearby after the wedding. I’d heard good things about the Philippines from friend...

[quote="Huskychemist" But I think I've decided to buy a netbook instead of a reader. 1. Price: For $300-$400 I can get a color screen that's about as large as the Kindle DX (which runs $489). 2. Flexibility as a reader: I can download the software for ALL of the readers, thereby not being ...

Re: EBooks?
Just to bring this discussion back toward the water... My big concern about the Kindle before buying one was how do I not kill it while reading in the hot tub? I do a lot of reading out in the hot tub, lots of folks read at the beach, while eating soup, etc. There are a lot of covers and sleves sold...

Re: Kauai Dive Operators
I dove with Bubbles Below in Kauai a couple of years ago. I was also there in Dec/Jan for Xmas & New Years. The seas are a bit rougher that time of year, so be prepared for some choppy (but fun) boat rides. Bubbles Below takes off some the south side of the island. They were quite nice and we di...

I'm glad you like the photos! I really like that vertically framed octo as well. I am trying to find a frame for a 13x19 print of this fellow. Take another look at the white scars on his mantle, I think he had a rude encounter with a sea lion. What do you think? The wrecks in Nanaimo are totally cov...

I'm glad you like the photos! I am using a Nikon D300 SLR camera in an Ikelite housing with a pair to Ikelite DS-125 strobes. I was using a 17-70mm lens for these particular shots. This is a really flexible lens that works well for wide angle and macro. You can see more shots from this trip at this ...

Re: Snake Wall Nanimo
I dove on Snake Island Wall about three weeks ago. It's my favorite dive in Nanaimo, even better than the wrecks sometimes. We saw some great stuff there this trip. Half a dozen Decorated Warbonnets, swimming nudibranchs, boot sponges in the deep dark, and the usual massive fields of white plumus an...

Stowaway Octopus?
Can you have a stowaway on a wreck? I made my first trip to Nanaimo in over a year and caught the last blast of summer. The diving as usual was excellent, and our group was able to hit all the great sites. We dove the Saskatchewan, Cape Breton, the RivTow, and Snake Island. Even Jesse wall had its c...

A while ago I cleaned out my closet full of obsolete tech, and came up with a pile of 5 or 6 old hard disks full of old personal data. I made it out to Keystone Jetty on Whidbey island last weeked for a big group dive with a lot of friends. It was a great day with excellent diving weather and great water conditions. Vis was about 20'+ and 55F. I always enjoy Keystone and the abundance of life and color. This weekend I saw a big GPO...

I've been to Roatan & CoCo View three times now, last in May 2007. You'll have a great time!!! It's the easiest and prettiest diving vacation you can make. You can literally dive your brains out! Here are a few photos from my last trip: Underwater Slideshow | Topside Slideshow http://4fuqfg.blu....
