Re: viz in the San Juans

based on a brief anchor check dive at Clark Island this weekend (near Pt Lawrence) viz was better than T Dock was last week but still +/- 10-15 ft. Worse than average for the area for sure.

New Z Light

Not that he needs another plug but I picked up a new Z light from Dusty. Haven't gotten to dive it yet but just wanted to say that the workmanship is absolutely top notch. It is much brighter than my "1200 lumen" Dx light and way prettier. :joshsmith:

I got one of those for 40$ too. It was a good deal and I like mine, its a carbon copy of the Hollis 200 gram suit.

Re: Im a boat Owner...

Welcome to the club. They say, the two happiest days in the life of a boater are the day they buy a boat and the day they sell it. He he he. I have bought and sold a couple boats and I still prefer buying. Love the lines of that one.

Re: Don't Mind Me.....

I dove Saturday and "saw" (in 5' viz) what was obviously a brand new ROAD CLOSED sign. The placement was quite elaborate and looked like it took a lot of time. However, I agree with the OP, not appropriate. I tolerate some of the stuff there because on some level it is habitat but this is ...

Mako/Tekna

I am looking at an Ebay Tekna DV-3X. Has been recently serviced at DPV repair in Florida. (Apparently, they update the scoot with new battery and update the bulkhead for better depth capabilities.) Anyone using one of these? I though someone posted a while back they picked up a unit like this? I hav...

Re: Where are all the dive site listings?

Not to show my true nerd colors but my public library (bellingham) had all of these books either on the shelf or like 1 day off. I checked them all out for free, figured out which ones I liked the best and then bought those.

Interesting Book

I just finished a pretty interesting book, "SEALAB." It details the various attempts to create deep underwater habitats. Pretty interesting stuff about the advent of saturation diving and a lot of the 1960's diving technology. The early rebreathers sound like little death machines, no alar...

I have heard that these make good "tec-reational" units. Is that true? I can slap together a batter pack for one of these.

Re: Can You Damage An LED Emitter?

LED finally arrived via Burro from Honk Kong. The geniuses at DX sent me a sst 90 instead of sst 50. I figured what the heck and soldered it in. All buttoned up and works great so far. No leaks in the bathtub. So, I figured that using the driver which came with the light (for the sst 50) which I am ...

T-Dock goopy 5-10 for the first sixty feet. Maybe 10-15 at 100ft.

Speaking of Scooters

Can one of the scooter folks help me out with this question that has bugged me about scooters since I first saw them. I looked at the Tahoe Benchmark data. The best static thrust figure was 91 lbs. This was the Cuda Fury 1150 which is like $7000. As a fisherman I have been around electric trolling m...

As a Bellinghamster I mostly dive Whidbey Island. I try to dive most Thursday evenings after work. Let me know if you are ever looking for a buddy. P.S. nice go pro shots. I just got one of those. I only have one really crappy "leak test" video so far but going to keep shooting...

Re: led conversion for par 36 lights(Dacor 750)

Here is a link to bulb that might work if you want to do the LED thing. 500 lumens at 12 volts, 9 watts but only about a 1 amp draw. Says the bulb is water proof....

Re: led conversion for par 36 lights(Dacor 750)

My .02 psi.... I would use a 50 watt halogen which will give you 900-ish lumens which is a solid output and upgrade the pack to NiMH or Li-ion cells. 12 volts at 50 watts get you around 4.1 amp draw. I cant picture what the battery compartment looks like but you could probably fit a 12V 4.5 Ah NiMH ...

I remind myself of stuff like that when I am debating picking up gear on the cheap from the internets or where-ever.... The owner knew I was looking and when they came in from a guy trading up to 130s he called me.
