Re: How common is deep air? NHZ

There is a disturbance in the force... A thread on NWDC discussing Deep Air Diving has not blown up in flames, tears, hurt feelings, and someone storm trooping off to bann'd camp ;) Or perhaps just a glitch in the matrix... It's a kinder, gentler NWDC these days. I'm still waiting for the other sho...

I believe that if you calculate the PO2 of air you get 1.4 @ 184'. Probably were that particular depth came from.
Thank you to everyone who has chimed in with information. It is very valuable to me!

Re: How common is deep air? NHZ

I agree with you 100% Bill. And no you didn't come within a mile of violating rule #1. So now the hard question. There are multiple opinions about max safe depth on air. Can everyone participating in this thread post their max depth on air and the logic give for said depth? I will start. The only ag...

That was to 174 without substantial impairment. I wasn't 100%, but I wasn't looped outa my gourd either. I'm curious how you determined you were not substantially impaired at 174'. My understanding is that you can be dangerously impaired without noticing it....you only find out when you unfortunate...

Re: How common is deep air?

We dived deep air because it was the only option. It was NOT a right of passage. My dive buddies and I stopped diving air past about 60' the day we got helium certs. That was in 1992-ish so I'm guessing we count as 'old-timers'. I don't teach any more, and it's been like 100 years since I taught an...

Re: How common is deep air? NHZ

You just don't know what you don't know. Yeah what he said. I fall into that category. I will dive 21% to 150'+ and don't feel like I'm not with the program. I was with J Pack at Leshi wall that deep on tire gas. Only one time did I feel narced out of my head and I was on nitrox! It was only 25% O2...

IMHO, if you have spent the money on a really great computer you should probably use all the functions available. I can tell you from experience that Buhlman or gf 100/100 doesn't always work out.

Very cool critters large and small. Those things in the crab shell look like what I was told were sea lice in Alaska. They would infest our bait jugs by the thousands! Nice shooting as always. See you on Sunday for the ferry!

Whoa there captn, I did not mean to speculate about anything these two did or why. The only thing I mistakenly speculated about was the time it took for the buddy to surface and if it was influenced by a loss of deco obligation information. Everything else was just passing along known info or the nu...

Good for you for taking action Matt! After another 30 minutes or so his partner finally surfaces after completing his deco. So this guy then omitted 30min of deco, (I'm assuming his buddy was exiting expeditiously after seeing the victim headed for the surface) and refused 02 at the surface???? I t...

Half time show at the Mukilteo club dive. NHZ Please!

As we were hungrily chowing down on Jeremy's world famous chili at the entrance to the T dock a diver surfaced about three quarters of the way to the buoy over the deep boat. No SMB was noticed before his appearance. He then spent the next few minutes flailing around on the surface in a most unnatur...

Re: Ice Diving Instructor in WA state

I believe the instructor at Orca Scuba center in Wenatchee is a PADI ice diving instructor. I wanted to take this class but no ice thick enough this winter that isn't a two hour drive. If we do have enough ice on Fish Lake it would still take a class of at least four or more to make it work.
