Re: Get to Know WAGIG better

7 to 10mins left? What is that in cf? or in psi? (but what size tank) Well i will be with al80 tank. Unknown at this time what 7-10 min of air for me is...will only know that with more diving...so until then exit water with 500psi... Ok, my .02.... Your profile says you have 10 dives. You've also m...

Re: Get to Know WAGIG better

That's great that you want to practice handling OOG scenarios. Any plans for preventing having to perform those skills in real life? Well i plan on going in with a full tank of air and have my gear properly serviced and cared for if that what your talking about. I will look into some kind of pony t...

Re: Get to Know WAGIG better

I would expect to leave the water with 7-10 min of air left in the tank for a maximum duration dive. I submit to those who are experienced that if this is not enough tell me and i will listen. What do you recommend lundysd? Why does 7-10 minutes of gas in your tank when you leave the water matter? ...

Re: Get to Know WAGIG better

Well i am a big guy, 6'7'' and lets say 300 lbs. I have a big lung capacity so I know i will chew through gas quickly if i am not able to maintain a steady slow breathing pattern. So first part of Gas management is being efficient in the water and keeping breathing rate steady. Then when I dive che...

Re: Get to Know WAGIG better

My first solo dive plan... 1. start by floating in water and test how buoyant i am (adjust weight set up) 2. go to approx 10 feet and test BC operation and test how well i can swim to surface with BC deflated. (get idea of capability in case of loss of buoyancy emergency. I will try this a few time...

Re: Weight System for BP/W

Weighted STA's are frowned upon by some, because the weight is slightly farther away from the body. The closer you can keep the weight to your body, the better it is. Who frowns upon weighted STA's? While I generally agree closer to the body helps contribute to a more balanced rig, I'd be more conc...

Re: DIY thread

Dusty I like your Goodman Handle. I tried a soft goodman that my wife sewed me out of neoprene but decided I don't like how hard it is to change hands with the light. I got a universal light monkey hard goodman for 30$ at DRIS. My question has anyone figured out how to attach at Mag head to a hard ...

I think the 1450 would work well. The UK613 is too small, and the UK416 is probably too big.

Re: WTB stage rigged Al40s/80s

So Catalinas are okay for deco bottles then? I had heard they arent so great for stages, but i wont be needing stages for a while. Actually I have heard a lot of things. Trying to keep track of it all. I dont believe I will be using pure O2 for a while either. These are all going to be designated a...

Re: WTB stage rigged Al40s/80s

You should really try a Catalina before eliminating them as contenders. Personally I really can't tell them apart in PNW (esp saltwater). With nitrox in them, any stage hangs like a stupid brick. With helium, not so bad. And as O2 bottles, AL30s are plenty big enough for anything <200ft and sweet l...

Thank you Pauli, for setting this up, and for the free gifts! I love doing these, and it's been a while since we've had one locally. This information isn't exclusive to any type of diving or experience level. In other words, this isn't "technical diving stuff". Though it certainly scales u...

Re: Pockets, SMB, reels.

I'd definitely get a 150' spool, and depending on the spool (if line is really packed on there), pull a few of line off to make it easier to manage and clip the DE off to. I learned my lesson several years ago when shooting a larger bag from 100-110fsw, in current on a dive we got blown off a pinnac...

Re: Pockets, SMB, reels.

There are very few items on which I have a really intense brand preference, but SMBs for the Pacific Northwest is one of the few. The Halcyon bags, with the inflator you can use either with an LP hose OR orally, are simply ideal. The inflator, which has a big metal flange around the Schrader valve ...

Re: SS Governor 2012

Awesome report, Josh. Glad you're ok.

Having had a complete drysuit flood on a tech dive with much less deco than what you had on the Governor, that's a situation I never want to be in again, let alone on a dive the scale of the Governor.

Thanks for posting it.

Also My experience with the E/O connectors is that they don't hold up well in salt water. The pins tend to corrode through over time and they are expensive to repair. You definitely don't want to turn it on if the connectors aren't mated. I also sand the connectors a bit with fine sand paper or a l...

Re: Moving Into Tech Diving

I'm not taking any SCR training here locally, I've found training elsewhere that more aligns with my goals. There's quite a network of SCR users. Then I would start there. Ask the instructor you'll be taking that training with what they suggest. At this stage, you need to be looking at path/progres...
