Re: Google Ocean

Sounds pretty slick. I would definitely enjoy playing with that. Not only will we be able to locate our homes, but now our favorite dive spots via online bathymetry. And who said google isn't taking over?

Re: PLEASE READ: Pacific Northwest Dive Expo - May 3 and 4

My buddy and I were there late Saturday morning, and it was fun. Definitely a solid turnout. We enjoyed ourselves, talked to all sorts of people and after getting the run down on certain gear (ie...x-scooters) can't wait to get out of school and start bringing in the scuba units. happy diving everyo...

Believe so. Site says pre-registration for the Treasure Hunt is closed, but open from 8:30 to 10:00am at Owen Beach. Dive starts at 10:30 sharp.

Re: PLEASE READ: Pacific Northwest Dive Expo - May 3 and 4

Exhibition Hall - Tacoma Convention Center 10am-6pm. There are two or three rooms of workshops/seminars during those hours. I have never been and am wondering the same thing about the dive. However, my buddy and I are going to brave it. For those of you who have dove Owen Beach before... WHAT is the...

Re: Edmonds UWP at high tide Saturday?

My buddy and I are still planning to do Edmonds BHUT (UWP) Saturday morning, as we haven't been there for a little while. Hoping to arrive around 7am, hit the water at 7:30 for 50 or 60 minutes (need real undergarments to last longer...hehe...weezle soon). And then swap tanks out for a second dive a...

webbah My buddy and I are planning to do Edmonds UWP ...rather BHUT (Bruce Higgins Underwater Trails...the man previously mentioned who has put lots of effort into park maintenance over the years), on Saturday as well. I agree with Bob that the big ebb might be uncomfortable and not ideal for diving...

Re: What makes a diver a "good" diver?

I am a new diver (not much more than 100 dives), but I'd say...buoyancy control/trim, buddy awareness, knowledge and ability to quickly and safely assess situations and what needs to be done, never being finished with the learning process of diving. I don't think I will ever be satisfied with the am...

Thanks for the input dwashbur.

And when you say
Too bad the entire Treasure Hunt is not at Owens Beach.
do you mean people will be looking for treasure inside the Expo room? Or just that prizes are awarded at a later time?

Owen Beach Treasure Hunt May 3rd

I recently heard about the NW Dive and Travel Expo http://nwdiveandtravelexpo.com/ and am interested in diving for some prizes. If I started this thread in the wrong place, please relocate it someone... Who is going to the first NW dive expo?!? Is there really a chance that I can win legitimate priz...

Re: Hawaiian black sand

I am no expert on underwater photography/cases...I don't own a case personally. With that said, a water pick might be useful. The kind used for cleaning teeth and gums. I am not sure if you have one or access to one, but I remember a friend having one, so they must be available to consumers. Seems l...

Okay, I have been trying to get a hold of my friend with previous sticker experience. No luck. However, a graphic design friend of mine said local (the place on Capital Hill someone mentioned?) is nice because you get to see exactly what it'll look like, but will cost more than the multiple websites...

Ah yes, I don't know if bubble rings have come up on the NWDC before, but there is something awesome about them. On my last dive at the safety stop I was working on them, it is pretty fun, definitely tricky with cold lips after a long dive. I have heard multiple techniques or words to keep in mind w...

Where is that elephant?! It doesn't look like the greenish waters of the Sound, but that is pretty sweet. My family has a place on a lake, to be left unnamed, east of the mountains. A small dingy with a gaping hole took out half of our dock during a 100+mph windstorm, not to mention chunks of ice an...

Site looks awesome! I know some people who have had large amounts of custom vinyl stickers made. I will get into contact and find out which places they used. If anything, vinyl is likely the material to use for waterproofness.

Thanks for the pony system, it's just what I was looking for. Everything seems to work great, and I am glad to have my own redundant system...sooner than I thought might happen.

It was fun diving and I hope we can again sometime.

Re: Fins

If you buy a pair of blades, at least keep the bio splits. You never know when you'll want to throw them back on. I use the bio-fins and love them, I don't even feel like I have to work, and with some of the lengthy surface swims around here, they are wonderful...and I don't feel out kicked by blade...

All this talk about back kicking. I have tried many times to get this to work underwater, all with no success... Is there a good video of someone doing this, or a certain description of the motion? I'd love to be able to do this, especially when going in for a closer look at something, and not havin...

Thanks for you generous offer Richard!

Thanks for the additional info! I am getting excited to dive some new environments...not tropical but not the Puget Sound. More toward the latter, but there is going to be sweet new things to see I'm sure. One of my dive buddy's professors has said Catalina is home to his favorite dive site, period....
