Read Ship of Gold And the Deep Blue Sea and dream of sunken treasure.
Beats the heck out of reading Shadow Divers and having nightmares about bending to death.

Re: Dive Master & Instructors... forever a pro?
So surrounded my competent professionals, your role is as a "diver" but if you're place in a situation where someone needs rescue, you're going to help anyway. Yes. In a rescue situation I will attempt to help, if I am needed. Whether or not I assume a leadership role depends on my percep...

Re: Dive Master & Instructors... forever a pro?
Does this opinion change based on the perceived quality of the Instructor/DM by their students, by non-students? My certifying agency considers me to be a divemaster even though I haven't been an active one for over a decade. My opinion of myself changes depending on the divers around me. If I'm wi...

Re: Carpal Tunnel and Latex Seals
I am not sure what you are asking when you refer to comfort with latex seals after surgery or with dealing with carpel tunnel syndrone? Carpal tunnel surgery usually requires an incision at the base of the palm, sometimes extending down the wrist an inch or two (personal experience). They cut the l...

Re: Hoodsport, Tritan Cove, Port Townsend need dive buddies
Hey there, I will probably be back up in Port Townsend around Monday or Tuesday for a few days. You looking at the late afternoon tides? Maybe we can get Kim over here too. I see the currents around the 14th - 16th are going to be great. I'd love to do another 2-dive day and BBQ on the 16th! Alp600...

I'm a science mercenary "in transition" (a euphemism for unemployed). WANTED: A science or computer job on the Olympic Peninsula. This year I was a hydrographic survey tech on a NOAA vessel. Last year I was a science technician at South Pole Station. Two years ago I was a system admin on a...

Re: Medical question
However, would a PFO cause an AGE or just an "undeserved DCS hit"? Seems to me it would make you more susecptible to DCS but not AGE. PFOs may allow venous blood returning from the body with a gas load (some of which is carried as bubbles) to cross over into the arterial system (including...

Re: Medical question
To be precise about it, an embolism is any foreign body or clot that obstructs a blood vessel. In the case of AGE, the foreign body would be a gas bubble . This is especially nasty because of the Arterial aspect, which allows it to travel to critical body parts, especially the brain. How it gets int...

(Dare I say this?) Club Med. Yeah, they're not dedicated to diving, but I've stayed at a couple of them and had a fantastic time. All inclusive, food, diving, entertainment and everything else, and many of them cater to families. They may seem a bit more expensive at first, but when you factor in th...

Haven't dove there but did take a look a while back... Looks like you can dive off the dock, parking is nearby. CaptnJack's probably right: looks muddy. Other nearby options you might consider are: -- The public boat ramp at Diamond Point (gravelly bottom, gets deep fast , current sensitive, parking...

Yup. A Storm whistle attached to the BC inflator hose, and a compact SMB in the pocket. On some dive vacations I also take a DiveAlert.
I'm still looking for an inflatable helicopter so I can self-rescue.

My very best narc was a hyperbaric chamber run to 165fsw (a dry dive). At 110ft it was relaxing. At 145ft there was an audible buzz in my ears. 165ft brought an uncontrollable case of the giggles.    Aside from the narcosis euphoria, it was educational to experience the ment...
