Octopus Attack!!
The first thing I will note is that I was cursing there is no footage of this. My buddy and I were actually both leak testing our newly outfitted Go Pro housings on this dive so all we had were cases filled with paper towels. That being said... Hit Keystone Jetty at 800am to catch some sweet tides o...

Re: Can You Damage An LED Emitter?
update. I figured since I have at least one new set, and possibly one old, partially damaged set of 32650s I would tear down the light and see how hard it would be to swap the emitters. I used a set of circlip pliers from Harbor Freight to pop the outer ring. The glass was a pain to get out only bec...

Re: Can You Damage An LED Emitter?
OK how about this. In a last ditch effort to save a few scuba units for another few months... The torch has a 52 mm reflector, can i put in one of those drop in modules from DX? The light hasn't flooded after 30+ dives so I figure I got one of the good ones. I figure I would have to do something abo...

Re: Can You Damage An LED Emitter?
So I looked at my emitter and it appears to have a burnt spot in the middle. The emitter is much more of an orange color as opposed to the greenish tone. So.... How hard is it to replace an emitter. I can pop the head on this light fairly easily. I have basic electronics skills and can solder. I was...

Re: Can You Damage An LED Emitter?
Thanks for your advice. I really do appreciate it. It was the Magic Shine MJ 850. Two protected 32650 cells so I am hoping the protection kicked in. I just have a basic Fluke VOM so it was 4 volts at 0 load. I ordered new cells because I figured they are not that expensive and will see if that works...

Can You Damage An LED Emitter?
I have an SST-50 light. I wasn't paying attention and ran the batteries to 0%. The LI-Ion batteries appear to be fine. I am getting acceptable run times and at full charge are at around 4 volts each cell (32650). The beam just appears to be a bit dimmer now and much more yellow in color. I can wash ...

Re: Gear Streamline Suggestions
Starting with the easiest suggestion first I just clipped my SPG on the right D ring. It was nice, I didn't even have to unsnap it and could just glance down. Thanks to everyone for their advice, I think down the road side-mounting two donkey's is the real answer.... wait that sounds kinda bad....

Gear Streamline Suggestions
I am trying to accustom myself to slinging a pony on all my dives. While its not really all that necessary on shallow dives I like to have it on deeper dives and I don't want to be adjusting to unfamiliar gear only on more challenging dives. My problem is that my left shoulder D ring (I use a standa...

Re: PNW Spear Fishing Education...
And crabs are WAAAAAAY easier to catch with pots than with your fingers as they scurry around. I would rather set pots, dive, retrieve pots, eat crab. However, I do feel like kind of a jerk for giving you a internet list serve style lecture about regs (in my earlier post) instead of just inviting yo...

Re: PNW Spear Fishing Education...
Scubanewb, in term of the regs, taking fish with a spear is covered in the WDFW rules. That is the ONLY source for licensing, and legalities information. If you would like to take some fish now the only legal fish that would be remotely edible are flounder, perch, and kelp greenlings. The lingcod se...

Re: Aluminum vs steel tanks
I am also one of those folks that have several (3) AL 80s collecting dust. Maybe they will be stages someday... I have HP 100s that are great. But try different tanks, if you do decide that AL 80s are ok for you the one advantage is that since most people do not prefer them with the heavy exposure s...

I have signed up Doc for some aquatic life sensitivity training. I believe he may have given a sea cucumber some emotional scars.

I try and dive on Thursday evenings (after work). Usually north end or Whidbey Island. Keep an eye out, I usually will throw a post up in the "Dive Planning" section.
