I periodically contemplate diving solo, when I can't find anybody who will go with me.
But to dive solo, I need redundancy, which means my doubles.
And I fall down in them a lot, and can't get up without help, which means a buddy.
Catch-22.
Hope you found somebody to dive with, Pez!

At least for me, there was no question that split fins were easier on my legs. They are what I started out in, because Bud told me I wouldn't get leg cramps if I used them. And I didn't, but it turns out I don't get them in paddle fins, either . . . When I took Fundies, and tried to learn to frog ki...

I went through the pictures (there are some lovely ones there!) and it looks to me as though you dove on the side of the island which is open to fishing. When we were there, we dove both sides, and the contrast was actually painful. The side which is a preserve was incredibly rich with kelp, sponges...

Sorry you didn't have good conditions or charter for Anacapa. We spent five days in LA in May, and one of the three dives we did off Anacapa ranks in the top dives I've ever done anywhere. The density of life, vertebrate and invertebrate, was amazing. It was photo op central. Here's a report with a ...

Well, in two years of diving here, I've been unable to dive due to water conditions a grand total of three times. We just don't have rough water here, like they do on true ocean shore sites. Now, crowded -- that's different. If I knew everybody and his brother was ALREADY at Three Tree, I might go e...

but we just connect with some dive buddies don't we. This is so true. My favorite buddy unfortunately doesn't read this board. He and I hooked up after we both took Fundies. One of my classmates is one of his friends, and both of us were hassling Leigh about getting out and doing practice dives. Le...

Possession Point Waterfront Park
While I was on Whidbey last weekend, I drove down to this park to take a look at it. It's a little north of where the fingers are, where the charter boats go, but Lamont's bathymetry plot looks like it has kind of similar topography, with the depth falling off fast just offshore. I'm wondering if an...

Yes, the ledges were great! I'd never been to that part of the site before -- We'd always just done the pilings and the girders on the sea floor around them. We were only six minutes into the dive last night when Bob found a HUGE octopus under a ledge, and only a few minutes later, the wolfie. About...

I really have to laugh when people complain about the surface swim at Edmonds. I spent five days in LA in May, and those people do surface swims. We dove a site at Laguna Beach where we surface swam for almost THIRTY MINUTES before we dropped; two days later, at Casino Point, my dive buddy said, &qu...

You know, strong personalities elicit strong responses. And we all have our favorite shops and people to deal with. And 5thD is not my primary dive shop, but I'm glad they are going to be on Alki, because Alki needs a dive shop. Think of the times you've forgotten something, or gotten to the dive si...

Well, I'm one of the world's luckiest divers, because I have such a great group of dive buddies it was hard to decide who to talk about. Sparky, it's good to hear that somebody else is fascinated with the starfish. I still haven't gotten tired of looking at the numbers of species we have, and the different places you find them. It isn't until you go dive somewhere like Hawaii or the Caribbean that you realize how incredibly rich the ...

Sounds like a wonderful adventure. Your descriptions of the food have my mouth watering . . . When we were in Indonesia, I tried to eat nothing but the Indonesian offerings on the menus. The food was wonderful! I'd like to do a trip like you describe, to a rather out-of-the-way place rather than a l...

Shore diving Lake Washington
Peter and I are talking about going out this afternoon to play with Al80's in Lake Washington. The only place I've dived in the lake was at Madison Park, but that's a long drive from us if we can access the water elsewhere. Has anybody ever shore dived Lake Washington from the North or East side?
