Tuesday evening dive alki anyone?

I'm in town til Wednesday I have a free evening after meetings Tuesday. I'm in Bellevue so alki is close. Probably 6-6:30 ish dive?

Had two nice dives at Edmonds last night with JT. Hate to be all the way over here (from home near WallaWalla) and not get as much diving as I can.

Re: seattle area dive question

No I have not been to the junk yard with her, I will however be to Alki next weekend for a business trip and will dive someplace around Alki again with another member here. I googled and found Les Davis, south of Redondo but still in the game. I'm thinking it may have some potential as the access so...

seattle area dive question

Going to seattle with my wife Saturday for a late afternoon evening dive. Where to go? someplace between redondo and edmonds.

She is not a fan of Redondo, and we have been to the alki sites quite a lot. Any other gems with reasoable access and available parking?

Re: SSI specialty diver training

Here are some of the example questions. There were plenty of questions as well for multiple dives and proper surface interval from the charts, or the max dive time and depth allowed for the second dive. All answers needed to be derived from the dive charts. None were just simple questions, all requi...

Re: SSI specialty diver training

Well I passed the science of diving class today. It's 100 questions with dive tables and physics problems.

It's involved but not as tough as I thought it would be or maybe my paranoia made me prepare better!

Nope, guess not. I'll have to try another way.

Well a link is better than nothing I suppose? How do you post a Photo from Google photo storage?

Hi again folks, I'm in salt lake right now typing this on my phone. A more detailed update coming. I'll be home this week and can type more in my lap top. This is a geothermal series of ponds that are natural 3% salt water similiar to the oceans. The owners also own a scuba shop in SLC and bought th...

Re: Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?

The midwest is out, I'll simply not live and survive in those winters any longer. Went to college in Chicago, now live in Eastern Wa. both have brutal winters at times and just cold and miserable on a good year. At least Eastern Wa where I am near walla walla the winter is only 2.5 months, not the 5...

Good point, it's far less than Hawaii or just about anyplace in the SE USA too.

Although family visits become complicated.

Hhhmmmm that might be okay too! Ha ha

income tax is irrelevant to me if I'm retired which was the point of the question. I won't have income tax because I won't be working.

Re: Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?

Having the house paid is not an issue in king county, its the property tax that will exceed the mortgage by the time you retire. Its not a city with the design intent to retire in. It appears more modeled around social welfare programs and working class or better people. I lived there for 25 years, ...

Where would you retire in the USA to live and Dive?

I retire in 5 years, full comfortable pension and savings by eastern Wa. Standards not in southern Ca. King Pierce or similiar counties. Nor is it enough to settle in the florida keys, although that would be in reach for driving with the Camp trailer? It would seem to me that the gulf coast is the l...

I pulled the trigger on a perdix AI Last week wow, should not have waited so long. Much has been said about it here but another shining star of this design is the compass. The math is already done for you on every turn the reciprocal is marked in red with a simple button push. If you take an SSI nav...

SSI specialty diver training

Hi folks, I have been interested in some of these additional classes from SSI. I realize that there are several agencies and all recognise the level of divers somewhat differently based on their own particular requirements. When I was living in South Africa only PADI existed and there was not really...

Re: Hi folks back from Nanaimo BC

Have to go check my dive log for the shore dives. The one that sticks out is tyee cove. Mostly because when I was coming in about 6 feet deep I could hear something louder and then I saw a boat with an outboard. This is a dive only location. These goof's dragged the boat down to the water. When I po...

Hi folks back from Nanaimo BC

Well, we had a great week of diving. My wife is a very new diver with 12 dives when we arrived, but she really got a lot of good experience this week. We also had the absolute pleasure of diving with the author Andy Lamb on the boat! He is not only incredibly knowlegable about PNW sea life but a ver...

Re: New to the area from Florida! I need a new wetsuit, haha

I'm also a wetsuit diver. I have not made the leap to dry yet. My very strong suggestion is a full 7mm wetsuit with an added 7mm step in hooded vest. I dive this combination as does my wife frequently and we have no trouble staying warm. 7mm is a bit restrictive if it's not a great fit. I think you ...

Re: Pony tank question

Thanks for your comments in this. If the terms I've used here don't match the proper technical descriptions common in America. That is likely due to my learning scuba in another poor third world country. One of the reasons I am part of this site is to get better acquainted the cold water systems, an...

Re: Pony tank question

So you're diving with two octopus one on the main first stage and one on the pony bottle? How big a Pony are you guys choosing? I think the 19 is the prudent size, for my needs thats 10 minutes plus or minus based on my proportional consuption with main tanks now. Ten minutes is enough to get somebo...

Pony tank question

So When you folks that have these pony tanks get them filled, do you have them checked each time you fill them? Do you eventually empty the air and refill periodically? Is there any problem with leaving that air inside for months? I have never seen one used with a separate pressure gage, only with a...

Curious about older equipment function

Hey, I was watching an episode of Seahunt, from the late 50's

This guy Mike Nelson is wearing a mask that is one big oval lense. How to you equalize pressure if you cannot squeeze your nose? How do you get under that mask? Same with current day full face mask with microphones built in?

Muvi K2 found at alike cove 2

As the title says, I found a Muvi K2 at alki in about 75 feet of water. It was attached to a head strap mount. This camera had been in the sea quite a while, both the strap and the case were encrusted with barnicles and other sea growth. The case itself was difficult to tell what I was looking at wi...
