Way cool. It looked like that rockfish was ready to eat that little guy. Thanks for sharing.

Sund Rock

No, I didn't forget. But that one was still close to its den, not free swimming in the open :)

Sund Rock

It has been a long while (almost 11 months) since my last Hood Canal dive. So Penders and I decided to hit Sund Rock on Saturday. We experienced a beautiful sunny day with about 20-25 viz. Our first dive took us to the south wall. We saw the normal cast of characters; wolf eels, octos, some really l...

Fiji Shark Video

Curt, I may have been mistaken on the silky. I think it was a lemon shark?? I'll have to double check with my son, the shark fanatic. Also, great point on putting chumming in perspective. I agree the finning that is occurring is a much bigger problem! Here is a link to a few of my favorite photos, t...

Thanks Joshua. I usually stick to photos. But I got a new go pro and decided to mount it on my camera rig during the shark dive :)

Rock of Life video tour

As usual, great video! I have to give you dive buddy/model kudos too. They did a great job keeping the light off your camera, looking at the life (not you) and slow patient diving :) thanks for sharing!

Re: Book Recommendations

I started shooting about two years ago with no top-side or underwater experience. The best advice I could give is to review some of the photographers on this site, there is some fantastic talent here. From my experience, shooting in our waters is vastly different from tropical locations. Usually whe...

Re: The ongoing 'Dond Lumpie and Friends Show ...

Went out with Penders last night for another PSL search. I wanted to share this photo (not the best) because it shows how little these critters are. My wife sees my macro photos and thinks they are the size of a fist, not so fast :-) I sure wish I didn't get the dungie in the background, this could ...

The ongoing 'Dond Lumpie and Friends Show ...

I agree with Bob, the outside edges are where we found most of ours. You will have to look really close as the first one is always difficult to spot. Once you know what to look for they are a bit easier to find.

Re: The ongoing 'Dond Lumpie and Friends Show ...

I had to get in on the Lumpie show. I love diving to finds these little critters. The most I have seen on one dive is 3, until tonight. We drop in about 9:15 and saw around 12 different Lumpies. I really started losing count :-) We were down for only 48 minutes and had a blast. Here is my favorite s...

Sockmonkey! I dove with you about 2 years ago at Puako. I will be back on the big island January 11-18. Care to dive with me again? I will bring more uptown espresso :)

Pacific Harbour, Fiji

I just returned from my first true dive trip in Fiji. All my previous dive trips have been coupled with work, I have never had a dive only trip. My dive buddy and I stayed at the Waidroka resort on the South side of Viti Levu. The resort was a smack dab in the middle of a rainforest, tucked away fro...

Advice and help from some fellow divers...

Thanks to everyone who jumped in and offered a computer, what a great group of divers. I got the issue resolved by purchasing a cheap computer off CL. Again thanks for all the generous offers!

Advice and help from some fellow divers...

I bought a Mares Icon HD wrist computer a while back. I really enjoy diving with it and was really stoked when I heard the air integration options were now available. I returned my unit (as required by the upgrade) about 3 weeks ago, in plenty of time for my trip to Fiji on 10/22. Unfortunately, I w...

Heading to Fiji in about 4 weeks...

Thanks for the info. I was afraid the shark dive would be too staged. I really want to see a tiger shark though. That is at the top of my list. I think the shark dive will be like the manta ray in Kona. Really cool to do once, but not sure I'd do it again. Maybe if a buddy wanted to go. Still a once...

Redondo - 9/22/11 - Sorry no six-gill photos :-(

Went searching for a six-gill at Redondo last night. No luck finding one. However, we did see a ton of octos out last night 8 or 9. There were also a ton of hooded nudis, which are very cool if you have never seen one. I sat there and watched them for a good 5 minutes. They are very fast movers (as ...

Re: Heading to Fiji in about 4 weeks...

I guess I really struck out on this post :-) haha. I probably should have been more specific. I am heading to Waidroka resort on the south side of Fiji and plan on doing the shark dive. I heard there is a ton of current in Fiji. Just curious if anyone has recent experience with the shark dive or dri...
