Everything I need to know in life, I learned in OW class...

Post by nwscubamom »

First off....No hijacking please!

So I tried this little game on Facebook, and thought I'd try it here. The idea (many people on FB didn't quite get this part) :banghead: is to make a statement of something that you learned in OW class that applies, in a double meaning, to something else in life! Sounds harder than it actually is.

I'll start:
Sometimes getting in over your head is a good thing! :thumb3d:

A snorkel is not required to do a dive. :boucegreen:
Life can be short and dives even shorter. Time off work will put it all in perspective.

It's always good to have a buddy--not only for safety, but so you have someone you can turn to and say, "Did you see that? How cool!"

I think that might have been from the Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy! Was Douglas Adams a diver?

Yes, and yes. I think it would have been fabulous just to meet him, my head would have asploded had I gotten to dive with him.

I've got a variant of this game which is "everything I know about IT, I learned from George Irvine":

"standardization of equipment and procedures improves MTTR when shit goes wrong" (nothing like having 10 completely different conflicting server standards to render your tier 1 support useless and constantly escalating problems)

"if you see some engineering that is designed to accommodate some phobia while ignoring all else, you are dealing with a stroke" (reminds me of our IT security guy)

"that is just farm animal stupid" (occasionally applies to my own perl scripts that i've written 3+ years ago -- probably applies to some network architecture that i'm playing around with now)

"that is solving a technological problem with a policy solution" (IT managers *constantly* make this mistake and wind up IT policy hell because they can make rules to govern people, but don't understand technological solutions...)

"don't work with strokes" (I really wish HR departments in corporate america would figure out how to fire people because it just screws up IT policy when you have to assume that everyone you work with is an imbecile because of the presence of some imbeciles that the company can't get rid of)

Just a reminder - Janna's first words were a request: "No hijacking please!"

Please try to stay on task...IT and GI3 don't have anything at all to do with her thread....
