Looking for Pt. Townsend suggestions ...

Post by Grateful Diver »

I'm heading to Port Angeles this week-end. Thinking to get in a dive with a couple of my friend's "kids" (they're adults, really) who are fairly inexperienced divers. Was wondering if there's anything in Port Townsend that's suitable for them on a week-end when tidal exchanges are pretty large.

I've only dived PT once, and wouldn't even remember how to get to that particular site. Any suggestions would be helpful ...

There's the wreck of the Comet in Port Hadlock. Maybe 75yds from shore. Good at any tide, max depth on a high tide around 32fsw.

On the way back from both of my Whidbey island trips my group dove the wreck of the Ranger, which is in the Boat Haven Marina:

It was a fun and easy dive with lots of life. Not sure how the big exchanges would affect it, though.

Bob, I'm in Port Townsend now but will leaving Friday. The two dives suggested are about it for shore dives this weekend. the currents will be getting to much for Pt Hudson and Fort Worden by then. Right now the shouth winds are making it pretty rough to dive anywhere in PT.
