Boy, talk about ressurecting an old thread...

I bought a Whites Fusion the day after I graduated OW. 25 dives and counting on it now.

You can't pee in a drysuit.

Of course you can, if it has a P-Valve.

Or if you wear depends...

Or if you can hold it like a camel, and not need depends.

I just started diving in October of '10, and have about a dozen PS dives under my belt. All have been wet, with all but one in the two piece rental wetsuit. Every time in those suits I've frozen my ass off. I rented a "semi-dry" scubapro suit from Oak Harbor and it was a HUGE difference. I once again had faith that I could be warm in the water here. Since then i've been on the hunt to find a semi-dry suit. Funds have been tight getting into this sport, so any advantage I have has been needed. I picked up a new J-type for 200 bucks, and plan to dive it tomorrow, it's becoming clear that (especially for winter stuff) diving a dry suit is the absolute necessity, and the j-type will become a backup someday. I think for people getting into the sport, it's important to remember to stay warm, but also to get out when you can and dive with what you've got. There will always be something cooler and better. For me (justifying the wetsuit to myself) it's about my desire to see what lies beneath, and whatever I gotta do to get there. 200 bucks is very cheap for a new suit, a lot cheaper than the 1000 for a "cheap" dry or a great used suit, and the difference in money i can spend on getting another tank, and safety gear.

My wetsuit is always nice and toasty warm.

Just make sure you're in the water first, otherwise it's just WRONG :rjack:

Also why getting my own wetsuit was my first newbie purchase.... rental wetsuits...

On the topic at hand:

I did OW and AOW in quick succession in a wetsuit, and did maybe 10 more dives before I dove in the first sub-50 degree day of the year. I immediately stopped diving until I was able to afford a drysuit. If you've found a wetsuit solution that works for you in February, then you are cut from hardier cloth than I am!

I dive wet. I only get cold when I have to take my suit off during an SI (I don't pee in my suit, that's gross!). Okay, the other time I get cold is changing out of the suit at the end of the day, but I've minimized this problem with a huge USIA boat coat to change under and a fuzzy drysuit undergarment to put on for the drive home (now I get the "furry" thing). I'd love to have a drysuit, but my budget hasn't allowed it yet (serious victim of the current economy; my income dropped by 80%), so I've spent my money on the more critical gear. I like my regs, mask, fins, BPW, and I can live with my LP95 tanks for now; in other words, a drysuit was my lowest priority.

(By the way, will trade professional air-duct cleaning services for 2xl drysuit)

Well, I'm actively working now to lose a good portion of my bioprene, so wetsuits in the Sound will definitely be out for me.
