Which Greenlings do you want to see-Ling, Painted, kelp, White-spotted? Redondo, Three Tree, Les Davis, Cove 2. Should see all of these except perhaps the White-spotted which are harder, but not impossible, to find.

We usually get white-spotted greenling in our net tows around here in Port Townsend. I've seen them at Keystone too several times.

Looking for Kelp Greenling to spear, ZachSD? Around Puget Sound?
If so, you might want to take into account that not everyone looks upon taking marine life at popular dive sites kindly, and you should probably go elsewhere.
And if not - well, then nevermind! :)

Oooo, yuck! If you are planning on killing them, please do so somewhere else. We see so few Kelp Greenling and it's always special.

A) You've made your passion for spearfishing well known, so assumptions will be made based on your previous exclamations and sig line - spearfishing appears to be one of the four things you can't live without. Petting and saying hi to fishies isn't on that list. What assumptions do you expect people to have?

B) Janna is our resident REEF instructor, and has a vested interest in her students actually seeing the fish she describes once and a while (she's also quite funny, and gives out M&Ms during her seminars);

And

C) WylerBear is a vegan and, if I know her, will not be minding her own business regardless (she's also a popular scuba instructor, and an incredibly friendly person too).

Get to know your fellow NWDCers, we're generally nice people, and we're trying to get to know you too!

Also, Don't be a Dick is one of the two golden rules here. Please refrain from doing so.

I notice you still did not answer the question -- this makes you look kind of suspicious. There are lots of people on this board who spear, and I'm sure would help you out if you asked, but most members don't react well when you look sneaky. The general assumption when someone asks for dive sites here is that they are not spearing, and the sites that are appropriate (or legal) to spear at are not always the same as the popular dive sites I or anyone else recommended above.

The divers on this board are the best there are and this board is the best one I have had the pleasure to be a part of. The majority of the people here are not only avid divers but avid critter watchers and photographers as well. So it is only reasonable to expect a negative reaction when someone comes on and asks where they can kill the fish that we love to watch and photograph. Kelpies are not a real abundant fish and we do love to see them when we dive.

Please respect the opinions of the divers here and be civil when posting your own.

A) Do people stay off these forums?

B) Vegetarians can debate with you about spearing fish in popular dive sites but meat eaters cannot?

C) I just felt there should be a (C) to add to my A and B.

+1

you cant have a 1. and a 2. and no 3. without it looking like you didnt put forth effort. Its like when you get a breakup letter and she's all like: well, 1. blah 2. blahblah and all I can think is "you should have just used a comma.."

To be fair, both nwscubamom and Wylerbear, said "if" you're planning on spearing. No one assumed anything.
Dusty2 wrote:So it is only reasonable to expect a negative reaction when someone comes on and asks where they can kill the fish that we love to watch and photograph.
And again to be fair, Zach never said anything about hunting in this thread.

So please, all, stop jumping to conclusions and assuming the worst of everyone.
