I was looking around for an old mine (called the Al Sarena mine) when I came across something called the Hall City Cave located near trinity CA. Apparently the cave goes back in and ends in a pool of water which may be deep enough to make it worth trip.
here is a link to another forum that talks about the cave:

Also: a bit of searching will get you some more info, as well as an anecdote about a guy that almost drowned in the thing.
Be neat if it panned out as a real system.

Re: For you cavers...
I think the OP is right though, AndrewG was in there (among many others) it doesn't go very far.

Re: For you cavers...
So with all the access closures in that area, is that mine still accessible? I know it used to be an easy 4wd trail to get to it. (and by easy, I mean in the terms of 4x4 trails, not gear hauling, my old lifted subaru easily made it)

Re: For you cavers...
The 4x4 area has supposedly reopened, but the mine is outside of that playground. I don't know if the boundaries are gated to try and keep the ORV folks within the newly developed trails or not. Its a bit of a haul for me coming from Kitsap so haven't gone up to look.Rooinater wrote:So with all the access closures in that area, is that mine still accessible? Re: For you cavers...
if you are talking about Al Sarena, I think it might be accessible, because Elk Creek Road is a pretty major, well maintained road (at least as far as gravel roads go )
What I meant by UTD got to it is that if you go to their website and search Hall City cave you can watch video of the exploration. Which is probably what is in the link that spatman posted.
Years ago, I heard from a buddy that Al Sarena was a flooded mine. that may or may not be accurate, I know that area somewhat well enough that I am thinking about going to see if that's true or not. However, I amn extremely nervous about entering 100 year old abandoned mines so I may not be able to tell if the thing is flooded or not. That's if the road is still drive-able up to the mine itself.
IF I go up there I will try to remember to bring the camera and take shots of what I find.

Re: For you cavers...
The link Spatman put in is a link to a thread about Copper Bell Mine above Reider Pit here in Washington. The road is still open and yes you need a good 4x4 or quads.
