Yikes!!!

More to come I am sure.

I like the "no injuries" part the best.

I thought it read that the tank was outside at the time. Their bank bottles wouldnt be outside would they?

OLYMPIA, Wash. -- A scuba diving air cannister exploded at the Capital Dive Shop in Olympia Tuesday afternoon, damaging the building and but causing no injuries.

Residents near the dive shop reported hearing the explosion at Harrison and Decatur streets around 12:30 p.m. One witness reported hearing a hiss and a "horrible" smell afterward.

Olympia Fire Department Chief Greg Wright said the air tank was outside the building and had thrown debris about 50 yards in each direction. The blast also created a hole in the shop's back wall. One store worker was inside at the time; he was not injured.

Three other businesses in the strip mall where the shop was located did not report any damage. They have closed for the rest of the day while L&I officials conduct their investigation.

An Olympia Police Department spokesperson said the incident "apparently was an accident."

More to follow.

Looks like the whole "inside/outside" line is blurry right now. You guys OK? Need me to throw some plywood and 2x4s in the van?

Aha! Yeah looks like bank bottles

The compressed air tanks are made of metal, and carry hundreds of pounds of air to fill scuba tanks used by sea divers, Wright said. Wright said Tuesday afternoon it is too early to tell what caused the explosion. Whether the tanks were old, or under too much pressure are two possibilities, he added.

Glad nobody was hurt by that!! Burst disks definitely don't blow holes in walls, but I don't see any ruptured tank fragments either.

And this has convinced me to hydro my own bank pronto too!

I think I know what caused the horrible smell after something like that...

That set of huggies would be history.

Just talked to Waynne and all is well. Nice hole in the back wall and a big mess in his work area but no injuries to anyone. He is not sure yet but it looks like a stage bottle blew. The timing was good and no one was in harms way, At least not serious harm.
