Treaure Hunt?
Treaure Hunt?
So, who all is going to the Treasure Hunt at Pt Defiance (June 23rd) this year? Either working or playing?
I'll be at the TL Sea/PADI/DAN/Dive-Around-the-Clock booth for the entire day, so stop and say hello.

A-2-Z will have a booth and social tent on the beach. It is going to be a fun day on the beach and someone from our group is going to find the Treasure Chest. There are a lot of great prizes too. The best part of Treasure Hunt is that it is going to be a fun day on the beach.
I will be at the booth all day. I can't wait!!!
We have tickets available if anyone needs to get them. Call me for info.

An anonymous donor generously covered a spot at the Treasure Hunt, so Dive for the Cure will be there, as well.
This was a last minute suprise...so I'm working quickly to get the stuff together!

my apologies...
I have got a lot of calls yesterday and today regarding tickets for Treasure Hunt. We sold out of tickets Tuesday and we had to turn in all of our sold stubs so we could be billed appropriately. I am sorry if it is an inconvience to anyone.
However, you may purchase tickets at the event! The gates open at 8am and you may purchase tickets until noon. Because of parking, I recommend that you arrive early. Dive breifing is at 1230pm, dive starts at 1pm sharp!
The sales rep from Aeris stopped in today and was showing us the new HUD mask. This is the mask that has a computer built into it. They will have 6 for Demo at Treasure Hunt. These are very, very cool! They will be available at the Aeris/Oceanic booth, and we will have one at our booth too.
Whites Drysuits will also have suits available for DEMO too. Tyler is bringing his trailer of all kinds of suits down from Canada for people to try out.
Even if you don't plan on diving, come down and check out everything that is going on. It is going to be a fun day on the beach!

HusksyChemist and I will be there, if all goes as planned, in my blue and white boat trying to maintain a dive area boundary and fending off all the fisherpeople who will likely be out in force.
Good luck to all of you participating in the dive. Dive safely.

Went to the Treasure Hunt Dive this weekend. I was not sure of the rules, but I feel I got Robbed!
I think the Volunteers got a majority of the prizes.
I won't go in to the details here.
It was a fun, short dive with the vis going from, not too bad to 6 inches at some ponts.
150 divers in the water at the same time? Anyone can do that math!
So, my buddy and I did not win any prize for finding 16 golf balls
{We should of each kept one and burried the others.}
But I did win a spot on the Bandito dive boat, from A2Z scuba shop for buying my ticket there, Thanks Amy! So that helped me cope with not winning in the Golf Ball Game.
On a side note: It was anounced that the rules for next years Treasure Hunt will be "Completly Different!" I think that was just a disclaimer for all the criticism they are expecting to recieve from this years hunt.
Also Congratulations to Sgt pepper he won that regulator and he was not a Volenteer and actually did dive for a golf ball.
So it was not a total spoof. I think I will go next year and see how that one goes.
Maybe I will be a Volunteer!
The highlight of the day was the Rebreather presentation , Thanks Curt!

Instead of complaining, maybe you should volunteer next year. I spent an entire day down there so that I could volunteer my time as a safety diver for an hour to make sure people like you came back alive.BASSMAN wrote: I think the Volunteers got a majority of the prizes.

Hmmm...all day volunteering = $35 ticket = same chance to randomly win a prize.
Sounds pretty fair to me.
By the way, I did not win a darn thing.

Well, I wasn't diving nor was I a Hunt volunteer. I did work the PADI/DAN booth and mostly talked up DAN a bunch, educating folks about what DAN does and all the education it provides. Handed out bunches of stickers and temporary tattos, and generally had great fun. Also socialized with loads of people, including about 8 who I generally only get to see once a year, at the Treasure Hunt. I had a blast, for me it was the most fun I've had in ages.
But again, I wasn't diving, or prize winning.

I was confused when I saw all of the divers with multiple balls in their hands; no matter how many balls you collect, you only get to register your name to one. The vis was so bad that my dive only lasted 5 min. The only thing I might suggest in the future is that they spread out the field somewhat so that there is actually a dive to do, not just a mad scramble for the goods. It was fun, and I'll do it again. Sorry to the folks that got only a golf ball. RSDancey got a TLSea charter. Diver_C and Bubblemkr struck out. The guy camped next to us won the trip to Papau New Guineau Better luck next time!!
I don't mind losing, but I do mind sucking!
I was a volunteer and won a prize.
I not only spent from about 7:00 AM to about 3:00 PM of my time, I also brought my boat over to help provide a nice boundary so that the divers in the water wouldn't have to worry about getting buzzed by all the fisherpeople zooming by.
I agree with Jenn. Quit complaining. It was a random drawing, there were no guarantees that anyone person was going to actually win.
I wasn't at the dive briefing, but, it seems that if you could only turn in one golf ball, why would you collect more than one?

Sorry if I offended anyone here. As I said in the beginning of my post I was not clear on the rules and I was under the impression that if I found a Golf ball there would be a Prize for that Golf Ball. My Bad, I will know better next time.
I just wish I would have known that in the dive briefing.
Thank you all for Volunteering and I agree you should get something for that.
But again, I was the one who was not understanding the Rules of the game. I thought, if I bring up a ball with a specific number on it, I would win a predetermined prize for that ball.
I did not think bringing more balls up would go into a bucket along with my ball to draw from for the prizes.
And I was also under the impression that the prizes would be for the divers who actually went diving.
So this was all a missunderstanding to me. And I did not mean to discredit all of those who worked so hard at helping out at this event . And for what its worth, I was also there at 7:00 pm and I did help out at the Dive For The Cure booth. And enjoyed seeing and meeting some great friends there.
So please, accept my apologies, as I am sorry if I offended or made someone unimportant here.

For sure! Group Hug...
BTW my rant ended up in another thread so no biggie..
And just sos everyone knows.. The highlight of my day was seeing Bryan Shupe win the Whites dry suit.. Volunteer and a real nice guy. Had been diving wet for so long (longer than me and even I am dry now) because he couldn't afford the suit.. No one deserved that more than him. That was really cool.

"Well I, I wont go down by myself, but I'll go down with my friends!"
I paid $35, was at the treasure hunt and found a ball in some ick vis while hanging with some ho-rrendous divers. (One guy elbowed me out of the way, so I eased back and watched him careen into the muck from the force of his own movement and then "swim" away with his hands while his octo _and_ his console drug the ground while he created Road Runner plumes behind from the force of his split fins stirring up the soup. All of that was topped by the long, wide green kelp belt trailing from the bottom of his tank like the tail of some lumbering sea creature.)
My ball resulted in nada but I had a lovely day outside bbqing with the hubster, Adron and his lovely, patient and enduring family. (Ever spent any time with Sgt. Pepper? ) I also got to buy a signed copy of Andy Lamb's book. (Thinking--Oh! There he is. Act cool. Act cool. Just talk to him. Yes, I'd love to go to Canada and dive. I'll certainly take your pamphlet. Oh, and you'll sign my book?" Must.....keep...breathing....under....control. "Thank you. That's a wonderful inscription." HE SIGNED MY BOOK!!! OMG! I COULD JUST DIE!!)
But..... (Keith, I feel your pain), things could have been organized a smidge better. Writing up the dive briefing in the Northwest Dive News, or giving it to divers when they registered would have helped to alleviate the anxiety. I read the magazine, looked through the materials and was at the dive briefing, but still felt like it wasn't absolutely clear as to how the process would work.
And, while I made sure to thank the guy who was directing traffic and offer to bring him food and beer (he had water), I probably was not as clear in my gratitude to the other volunteers. I watched Rick, Amy and Enchantmentdivi work their kelp tails off and am sure there were lots I didn't know who worked just as hard.
Thank you guys very much for putting it all together and looking out for me in case a boorish silt monster were to knock me unconscious.

You should have thrown a panicked OOA at him... then while he fumbled for his mud-filled octo, stolen his golf ball and disappeared into the muck.

Then again, you could just remove one of his fins as he swam past you and then watched him swim in circles.
