Wildlife Detectives · Episode 103
Mystery Sharks of Seattle
05/03/2016
One of the world's largest and most elusive predatory sharks, the sixgill, suddenly appears in Seattle's waters. These creatures typically dwell in darkness several thousands of feet beneath the surface. Little is known about them. What would make them appear in the shallows of Puget Sound? And what does it say about our oceans? Researchers are hunting for answers.

I interviewed for both the show and the trailer. Don't know if any of my interview actually made the cut, but in any case I won't be around to find out ... I'll be in the Philippines when it airs.

I pinged a few of you that I know did interviews with Michael privately on Facebook, but posting here as well. If you did a six gill interview, are available and are interested doing a quick dive this upcoming week for some underwater b-roll of, well, you in the water "recognizable faces etc.." and can meet in West Seattle, please PM me :)

We already have shots in mind and I promise I'll keep it quick and won't torture you too much with the camera. If you are already diving in the general vicinity for a Tweak or Monday Madness or Junkyard or whatnot and could spare 10 min before your primary dive or even after it, I can totally make that work. These are kind of 'icing on the cake' shots, cutaways for the interviews, not necessary but add to awesome factor if not just using generic 'divers'.

If we aren't in the KCTS Channel 9 area - I'm a little south of you ;) - do you know if it will be available on their youtube channel thereafter?

Very nicely done, congratulations to all participating.
I sure learned a lot. I had no idea that Seattle might be nursery for sharks !

IIRC in 2003 we were seeing one or two "naturally" on every dive in the summer at 3Tree. Then in 2004 we stepped it up to seeing 4 to 12 on every dive at 3Tree but that was with encouragement. None of "ours" had tags on them. Wild times. Great show. Fortunate I could participate. Great footage from all and well done with the story. That's just how I remembered it.

Now lets have a show about the missing Dogfish! I remember seeing schools of them frequently in the early 90's. I also remember seeing giant skates back then...
