Dropped dive light at Sunrise Beach 12/17

Post by stphnmartin »

I solo dived Sunrise Beach today and found myself surrounded by three, giant, barking sea lions. In the process of running away I dropped my backup light somewhere around the base of the wall in the first third of the northern side of the reef. It wasn't on when I dropped it. If you happen upon it, please drop me a line.

Here's a picture of the light. It has a slider to turn on the light and it had the wrist strap on it.

Sorry you lost your light! Were the sea lions pretty territorial, or was that dramatized for tv? Were you wearing split fins?

Happy to go back and help u look for it. I was just talking about how I've been wanting to go back.

And oh i need to go label any new equipment I have!

How was the dive otherwise?

Viz was about 15 feet. The sea lions definitely seemed serious and I was outnumbered. The viz didn't help in trying to track them and they kept barking loudly behind my head. That was a bit nerve racking. They never touched me though. No split fins.

I'd certainly go back and dive with you there. Prolly can't do it till after xmas though. Maybe it will turn up before then!

Ooh the split fin theory has been debunked with this anecdote!!

Dang. Woulda swore he had to be wearing split fins. And Dad gum Stephen, you have dropped more stuff diving than I have purchased! The answer is...
Gorilla Glue. Glue that stuff onto your drysuit.

Stephen,
That would be unnerving to be out numbered by those large Sea Lions...
Will keep an eye out for your light.
Count me in to do the next dive there to help you find your light.
