What did Santa bring you?

Post by Aquanautchuck »

This year since I have to pay for a wedding, honeymoon and move to a new home we kept the gifts to a minimum. Because of this I will have to enjoy the Christmas gift excitement though all my dive friends. So what did Santa bring you this year?

Got the last 4 pairs of Scubapro XL Kevlar palm neoprene gloves. I had heard they we discontinuing them so I grabbed the last pair off our shelf about a month ago. Apparently they sent out a closeout list and my wife immediately called Scubapro and ordered them.

I live in these gloves when I'm working and really hated to see them discontinue them. She bought me a year to find something else!

what the heck is a plasma 1080p?

Diving. . . is an active physical form of meditation. It is so silent- You're like a thought.

SOME PEOPLE ARE LIKE SLINKIES. NOT REALLY GOOD FOR
ANYTHING, BUT THEY BRING A SMILE TO YOUR FACE WHEN PUSHED DOWN THE

do you use the fireplace? if so, be careful, i have a friend who mounted his lcd over his fireplace, and the thing got toasted over the course of a winter. well, smoked, also. the repair techs weren't 100% sure if the electronics failed because of heat or maybe exposed to wisps of fireplace smoke, but he had to pay a ton to get it fixed...

I got two great books, Brittle Stars (by Lambert and Austin) and Sea Cucumbers of BC, Alaska and Puget Sounds (Lambert). Both are in the Royal British Columbia Museum Handbook series, and very cool!

(I was coveting John Rawling's when he bought his back in August, and now I have my own! :bootyshake: )

It's a gas fireplace so any gasses shouldn't be an issue. As for the heat, we've dialed down the fireplace with that in mind... got that beautiful extended no-questions-asked warranty too! \:D/

I got a DAN boat coat -- Nylon shell, lined with fluffy red fleecy material. We had coats like that on the boats in Cozumel, and I thought they were fantastic. You throw them on over your wetsuit when you get out of the water, and then the wind doesn't bother you when the boat moves!

And I got a gold pendant in the shape of a line arrow, which is really pretty, and I love it because it's such a subtle statement.

But the big surprise was the Aladdin Tec 2g I've been coveting for months. The timing was perfect, too, because my Vytec died the death a couple of weeks ago. The only problem is my Christmas present from Santa was a bad head cold, so I can't get in the water to try it out!

Santa brought me a subscription to Scuba magazine, Jan Kocian's book, clothes (for topside wear, not underwater, sadly) and a $400 Delta Airlines voucher which will get me at least part of the way to Bonaire in June!

But Santa (meaning me) brought my brother a $200 gift card to UWS so he can get his OW certification. It's part of my master plan to keep him from selling his boat. MWAHAHAHA!

His wife asked, "Doesn't diving require lots of gear? And isn't it expensive? He already has too many expensive hobbies!" To which I replied, "He can borrow my gear for the class, and if he decides he likes it, he can start off with quality used gear for half the price of new," which seemed to placate her for the time being. I also know she can't say no to him, so he gets what he wants.

I love my little brother (6'2", 190lb cop that he is) and can't wait to share this sport with him.

You are one sneaky devil Scott. I have always believed in "Growing Your Own" when it comes to dive buddies.

I know what his wife means. But since I have gotten into diving I have sold my racing moto-cross bike, racing quad, quit rock climbing. Free's up a bunch of Scuba Units. Never have to many of them.

Santa brought me kitchen stuff to support my other hobby – cooking!

But, I bought myself an early Christmas present in November when I got a bp/w and a lovely purple harness. Then my computer died so I had to buy myself an early birthday present, of course.

I like it better when Santa brings my scuba gear. :)

It is better when Santa buys the scuba gear, but so far he hasn't brought me the HP 130s I want. Guess they're going to have to be my Christmas present to me.

What kitchen tools did he bring you? (I used to work at Sur La Table, and they were called tools, not gadgets, to justify the price.)

He's a bit of a firearm collector, and a hunter/fisherman. Last year he outfitted himself for deer hunting. This year he went black powder hunting, so he had to buy a new black powder rifle. Then later this year he got into bird hunting, which meant he had to buy a new shotgun. And like the rest of our family, he believes in buying only the best, which I believe puts him around 20-30 scuba units in hunting equipment this year.

If he's going to dive, he may just have to not buy more guns when the mood strikes him. Maybe a speargun, though. And then there's all the gear for the boat.....

Haha, yeah, tools. Ahem. :)

I got a new set of ramekins, a set of stainless steel steak knives, a digital probe thermometer, and a big green serving platter.

Ooh, and a cuisinart thermal carafe coffee pot.

I love to cook but I think that most "tools" really are gadgets. I don't like for too much of the work to be done for me, y'know?

Amen! Give me an 8" chef's knife and a heavy 12" saute pan and I'm happy! I had drawers full of crap that I thought I couldn't live without, until I split from my ex. As it turns out, I need good knives and good cookware. Everything else just gets in the way.

Very, very true. :)

Both Santa and my favorite dive buddy did get me something semi-dive related....a bottle of Jamesons for warming up after the dive! :partyman:
