Beneath Emerald Waters: Scuba Diving Locations in Puget Sound
New Cool Dive site map - and it's FREE! Thanks to WDFW!
New Cool Dive site map - and it's FREE! Thanks to WDFW!
If you haven't seen this very cool map yet, you should! The online version is found here:
http://wdfw.wa.gov/viewing/diving/Benea ... iveMap.pdf

But if you want the REAL McCoy, you can try to pick up one locally. These should be distributed to local dive shops and various locations around the NW - they printed up 100,000 of them! If you were at the dive expo, you may have seen the booth that showed the new map plans and met Misty Klotz, WDFW, who spearheaded the project. Jack Connick did the incredibly cool photography and graphic design for the project.

Another option, since Misty sent me something like 1500 of these to distribute in the Portland area and in REEF classes, is for you to send me a SASE and I'll pop one in the mail for you. You'll need 59 cents postage on a business letter sized envelope. (Just the regular long envelope that would fit a brochure).

Email me at nwscubamom AT comcast DOT net and I'll send you my address.

I'm not sure if someone is distributing them to you, or how this works. I know Jim Trask got sent a bunch as well - maybe he has plans to distribute them up your way? Best bet would be to call or email Jim or Misty directly.

Here's a list of locations I've personally dropped off a stack of maps to at this point:

Washington:
Anacortes Diving Supply
Naknek Charters - Friday Harbor
Smokey Point Diving
Yakima Dive Center
Hudson Point Dive Center - Port Townsend
Pacific Adventure Charters
Hoodsport 'n' Dive
Underwater Sports - Olympia
Capital Divers - Olympia
Thunder Reef Divers - Vancouver
Seven Seas Scuba - Vancouver

Oregon
Adventure Sports - Gresham
Oregon Underwater - Portland
Pacific Watersports - Aloha
Aquatic Sports - Portland
Underwater Works - Tigard
Steve's Scuba - Milwaukie
Salem Scuba

Jim Trask said he was going to drop off the maps at all the Seattle/Tacoma area shops - I'm not sure if he's done so yet, but that was the plan anyway.

Stop by any of these shops listed above to pick up your copy - they're very spiffy, if I do say so myself.

If you are in Olympia you can just swing by the DNR building and pick some up at the info desk.

Valerie,
I think I have one in my stuff. If so, I'll bring it to you tomorrow. If not, I'll get you one before we dive together again.

No worries, I mailed her one back in July. And if you want more, you can stop at Hoodsport n Dive on the way up or back.

I will have a bunch of these with me at MaST tomorrow at Redondo. I'll be manning the gallery for the Puget Sound Depth Chargers' 6th Annual Photo Competition. Voting was last weekend, but stop by and see all of the entries including the winners. And, I'll give ya a map!

Hmmmm....it now looks like the maps are at every single dive shop....EXCEPT the ones that I happen to go to! ;)

Janna, do you happen to know if they are available at WDFW offices? If so, I could swing by the office in Mill Creek and get one.

I think they very well might be.

Tell me your dive shops? We need to get the maps over to those ones!

Anybody else know of shops we haven't gotten yet that we still need to visit?

Make me a list! Please!

Bubbles Below in Woodinville and Northwest Sport Divers in Kenmore haven't shown up on any list I've seen here. If someone will send me a bunch of the maps I'd be happy to drop them off at both shops and save someone else the long drive.

I'd also be happy to take them to Edmonds and Everett Underwater Sports, if they end up being amongst the Underwater Sports stores not having received any yet.
