A couple IDs

Post by Scubie Doo »

My buddy and I went on a search for Lumpies last night. Unfortunately we did not see any, but I saw two species I have not seen (or noticed) before. Can you help ID them? BTW - we were at Redondo. Thanks for your help!

Not sure what the long guy on the left is.

A bit overexposed but a good profile of the fish.

Top and bottom are snailfish. They seem to be popping up everywhere at Redondo lately.

Agreed - top and bottom are snailfish. The ones in the middle are:
left: Either a High Cockscomb or a Slender Cockscomb (although I can't completely tell from the angle/shot, although I'm leaning towards a High).
right: Juvenile brown rockfish

Two more questions. I have looked everywhere for the attached Jelly. Saw this at TTN and they light up.

Also how does one differentiate between a baby red octopus and baby GPO?

That would be a Comb Jelly, often called a Cat's Eye or a Sea Gooseberry.
