Oregon triton aka Puget Sound whelk

I would swear I've never seen one of the guys before and on a dive at Les Davis yesterday, I saw 3. Have I just missed them in the 2 years I've been diving or are they rare to see?

Rare to see down in Puget Sound - they tend to be more up in the San Juans or in BC or out towards Neah Bay.

I see lots of them in Port Townsend but not so much in the south sound.

I see them on almost every dive at TTN - typically on the cabin cruiser. Their egg whorls are really cool, as are their spawning aggregations.

I see them a lot at Three Tree but not too many other places.

One thing that I have found (it may not apply here) is that as soon as I learn to identify something (specific animal or plant) I start seeing it everywhere. I don't know if everyone else is the same but I just seem to miss things until I know how to look for them!
