It actually seems to be growing out of their gills. We saw at least a dozen fish like this among the big school that was right under the dock.

Was it in the fish's mouth? Looks like he's carrying it but it's hard to tell from this angle. Maybe the beard-mania has gotten to the fish too.

Another Perch Question

While diving at Mike's last week, we also saw several shiner perch with this stuff on them. It looked like it was making it really hard for them to swim. I give up; what is it?
