Shrimp Shortage???

Hello Fellow Divers!

Happy Friday!
I just wanted to see if anyone else has noticed a lot less shrimp lately? On all of my dives I'm looking for shrimp to take pictures off, but lately I'm lucky if I even see 1 shrimp per dive.

I remember when I started diving 2 years ago there were shrimp all over the place. :luv:  :pirate: :eric:

Any thoughts? :joshsmith:

Have a great weekend! :)

Melting shrimp? Not likely to notice that.
The candy stripes at Skyline have been having a good year.

I think I've seen more candy stripe shrimp this year then Coon stripe! It's crazy!

Lots of shrimp off of Port Townsend today. I like to render them immobile with my light. Catch and release. ;)

60South and I dove PT waterfront both sat and sun and the candy stripes were everywhere, more than I've seen before.

Is that the same as Point Hudson?

Are you doing night dives for shrimp and missing them?

We've not looked in the typical areas/times to see the spot prawn, but we are looking in areas/times you'd normally see the coonstripe to no avail!

I looked in the REEF database for coonstripe shrimp, I didn't see any falloff in coonstripe reports from previous years yet.

I usually dive Thursday nights & SAT/SUN Days and haven't seen any Coon, Horned or Stiletto shrimp for quite some time. I don't usually go super deep so I didn't except to see the Spot Prawns. I did see one spot prawn a few weeks back at DIW at ThThTh but that was last shrimp I've seen in a while.

I've looked for them at Cove 2, Edmonds, Keystone, Muck (Clay Wall & GEO Dome), Redondo, 3 Tree and DIW and the #'s are way lower then what I remember seeing 2 years ago. Now Days I'm happy if I see one or 2 shrimp per dive.

I'm not sure if anyone else is missing them?

I know what you're saying Jessica. I remember a couple years ago seeing a ton of their eyes when your light shines on them. They just aren't as many anymore. I think I saw the most in one place at Dalco Wall. I would like to go check and see how many are there now.

I'm noticing the same thing too. Just not a lot of them.

No shrimp seen at Cove 1 yesterday on the reef or near the storm drain or in the debris trail. Usually they are lined up in the nooks and crannies.

I saw a lot at Salt Creek last weekend. Most I've seen in a long time.
