When Penpoint Gunnels Attack!

Hi
On two dives lately I've been accosted by Pen Point Gunnels. They come charging at me like they're insane, and come right up to my camera face. On both occasions they seemingly came out of nowhere. Could they be nesting just out of sight?

One was dark green (Muk), one was dark red (keystone)... both very large

Any ideas?

Not sure why? Crazy fish! I'm guessing eggs nearby? Great snaps! Love the Christmas colors! :) :) :)

What a shocking and terrifying experience! Let's all try to be safe out there, maybe time for some of that scuba-chainmail the shark divers on TV use!

I had a similar experience this year that shook me to the core, an unprovoked assault by a vicious Scallyhead Sculpin:

This is a case of the Zombie / Vampire Penpoint Gunnel attacks that happen frequently at this time of the year. Luckily you had recently ingested the chutney / feta combo which is a strong repellant or we wouldn't be talking about this scary incident so casually!

That green one was Huge at Mukilteo.. What was nice about it is, it just Sat there and let us Photograph it... Very rare to see them out in the open like that .. Vrs them hiding in a tire or shelter areas
