Looking through old photo's i was hoping finally i may have found a sculpin that is not a scalyhead or buffalo.

Re: Fish ID help
That actually looks kind of like a juvenile kelp greenling, but don't hold me to that.

I say it's a sculpin of some sort.

I agree with the "It's a sculpin" assessment...doesn't look like a juvy greenling to me. Dave, what characteristics led you to suggest that? I'm curious. Maybe I missed something.
Thanks.

Me too. I definitely am not feeling the greenling vibe for this fella at all.Huskychemist wrote:I agree with the "It's a sculpin" assessment...doesn't look like a juvy greenling to me. Dave, what characteristics led you to suggest that? I'm curious. Maybe I missed something.

He looks similar to several we saw down in Monterey, especially the coloring, the dorsal fin and the eye. But as I said, don't hold me to it. The shape does look more like a sculpin, though I have no clue what brand it might be.Huskychemist wrote:I agree with the "It's a sculpin" assessment...doesn't look like a juvy greenling to me. Re: Fish ID help
I think it may be a juvenile Spinynose Sculpin.

Re: Fish ID help
I'm thinking sharpnose sculpin, Clinocottus acuticeps.
Re: Fish ID help
Thanks for the help, apologize for the low quality shot.
Found this fish in the same place (but more than a year later)... looked similar... and SMALL!!!
maybe ~10mm TL...

Re: Fish ID help
My best guess would be a baby Scalyhead Sculpin.
