Critter ID Help???

I've seen these little guys before and I thought they were in my ID Book but when I went looking, I couldn't find them.

Can some one tell me what it is please. Thanks.

I'd say a Creeping Pedal Sea Cucumber Psolus chitinoides, but I don't think I have ever seen one on a piece of kelp like that.

What you're seeing is the 'armor' portion of the Creeping Pedal Sea Cucumber (also called a slipper Sea Cucumber). The feeding tentacles are tucked inside right now, and you're just seeing the outside portion. It is unusual to see them attached to kelp!

Usually you just see bright red floofy tentacles (that look more like a plant) on rocky reefs.

Yup. Usually they look more like this pair that we saw at Three Tree on Sunday.

And the brooding anemones usually have little ones hanging around on their base like this one we found at EUP on Memorial Day:
