Re: unknown ID
They are both sculpins, The first is a buffalo and the second I'm pretty sure is juvenile Scaly head

Re: unknown ID
I don't see the tufts behind the eyes to indicate that the first sculpin would be a cabezon....... I think I'd go with the buffalo id as dusty2 said. I could be wrong though.Scott G wrote:first one looks like a cabezon.

Yeah, I don't really know too well, i'm not a fish guy.
It just looked like a cabby to me, then i saw the skin flap on the top of its mouth and i thought that was diagnostic for a cabezon (i.e. to say no other sculpins have it)
also, i've been known to have been mistaken

Re: unknown ID
My first thought was cabezon as well, mainly because the snout looks too pointed to be a buffalo. But I also didn't see any cirri, so I thought it could be the angle. Now, having looked much more closely, it appears that there actually are cirri behind the eyes, they're just lying down. And it does have that horn on the snout, so I think I have to cast my vote for cabezon.

Re: unknown ID
The nose flap is a good character for cabezon, and this guy's got one. They don't always have it sticking up though. The cirri behind the eyes are laying down but you can see them when you blow the picture up. It does look like a buffalo at first glance though.
