Photo Slideshow from Bali, Indonesia

Post by Tangfish »

Well, I've been lagging about posting my photos, trying to finish my trip report. But, I've decided to just post the photos ahead of the trip report, which I eventually will get to (I promise). Here they are. Please enjoy the slideshow by clicking the image below, and mute or turn down the volume if necessary (there's music).

I was going to say something snarky, like "it's about time"....

But I can't.

Those images are simply stunning, Calvin. Really looking forward to the report, and no wonder you don't dive much around here anymore!

Brings back memories. What sites did you hit? From the looks of some of your pictures, I'm guessing you made it to the Liberty?

I pretty much made my way around the whole island. Started in Padang Bai, did Nusa Penida and such around there, then headed up to the Tulamben area where we did a bunch of muck dives and the Liberty, then on to Menjangan for wall diving. Really loved the diving there. I wish I'd spent a little more time in the Padang Bai area.

I hit Padang Bai, Nusa Penida and Menjangan Island on my first trip in 2001, as well as Tulamben. The 2008 trip we only did Tulamben in Bali, since we were heading off to Komodo, Bunaken and Lembeh afterward.

Next time, check out some of those other places ... I can especially recommend Komodo and Lembeh ... but Bunaken was pretty awesome as well.

I dream of retiring to Bali ... it's the closest place to heaven I've been on this earth ...

I did Bunaken and Lembeh back in 2003/4. Great diving, more isolated - but as you said, you can't really beat Bali for the complete package (food, people, culture, etc.). Next on my list in Indonesia is Raja Ampat!

Calvin, Great shots. I realized I was starring at my screen with my mouth open. My wife said "What the heck are you looking at?" I know what she was thinking. :smt119

Calvin, and a few others- Bob Bailey,John Rawlings, and Scott Boyd come to mind....can make the underwater world sing, through their photography. A really good UW photagragpher makesit look better than it actually *looked*, if you know what I mean. I have been lucky enough dive with a few of these people: and all i can say is that my hat is off to them- it's not half as easy as you think it might be, to take great photographs underwater.... :joshsmith:
