Happy New Year - Photo of the Year

Post by Scubie Doo »

I thought it would be cool to share our favorite photos from 2015. It was tough for me to select (1) photo. However, I had to choose this photo from the Flower Garden Banks. This trip was an amazing trip and diving the Oil Rigs was a once in a lifetime experience. This photo was captured while diving under one of my favorite dive buddies, ZSAOLY. This really captures a special moment in my diving career. And it was a dive trip I had wanted to complete for a long time. I almost selected a photo from a special trip with gdog in Cozumel, but this one was just too cool to pass up :-)

Please share your favorite photo from 2015. I am excited to see your favorite 2015 photo.

that is a special photo indeed, Scubie! The diver off to the side gives it a surreal sense of scale. Bravo

This is a 6-8 hour boat ride to the middle of the Gulf of Mexico. You fly into Houston, drive to the coast, and board the boat for the journey. If you google Flower Garden Banks you will see all kinds of cool videos.

This photo brings back really great memories! It is not my best from 2015, but it is my favorite.

Love the pics so far!

Alas, with only 18 dives in 2015 it would be insulting to try and cull a shot from one of my paltry stash of fotos. :penelope:

Tell me about it. It would be depressing if I let it be. Equipment issues. My regular diving buddies getting taken out. Getting fat. (I have now lost almost 70 lbs and so am back to diving.) Almost a trip a month Central / South America. Equipment issues. Did I mention getting fat?!?! :BDub: :wedgie:

Just one of my GoPro stills, but my 2015 favorite --
Nanci (nv77) tutoring a rockfish in swimming. (During the school year, Nanci tutors 7th graders in math).

My favorite photo of 2015 - A Galapagos Marine Iguana, a species found only in Galapagos. No where else in the world do iguana swim at all.

Every time I look at this picture I first see a sunny meadow hillside, small trees, and a dinosaur in it's element.

Lots of great dives in 2015, but none more memorable than Verde Island in the Philippines last June. An amazing level of biodiversity and life that one can't truly imagine until you are confronted with it. My 8 days there barely scratched the surface.

Looking forward to more great adventures this year! :)

I was torn between a shot from Cozumel, and this one. However, this one takes it for me. It took me over 200 shots over 2 days to get this one.
Tiny Hatched Giant Pacific Octopus.jpg
These newly hatched baby GPOs were the size of a grain of rice, and darted around on their journey to the surface layer. Obtaining focus in Macro, and getting the shot with good lighting was very difficult for me. I had an absolute blast these two days, and this one is my best. I love how it almost looks fake.
