Lingcod with a death wish?

Post by divernick »

I took this at the club dive at Redondo a couple weeks ago. I came across a new addition, the stove/oven over near the bug. i looked inside and there was this ling, sitting in the oven. The video's not great, but it's amusing...at least I think so.

The stove has actually been there for a long long time, but it almost always seems to have something hiding or nesting in and around it. Cool!

Apparently you can either bake or fry lingcod; this is the same stove, wonder if it's the same fish?

There have been a couple of different lings hanging out at that stove for the past few weeks. Are the eggs still there? The last time I was there there was a huge egg mass being guarded.

I didn't see any eggs when I was there.

I don't think this is the same stove as you were mentioning Val, there wasn't anything growing on it yet, so it couldnt' have been down there very long. I don't remember seeing it from when I was at the site about a month before either. It is right next to the tall stove however, and I have seen eggs on that one, but not when I was there for the club dive, they had all hatched I guess.

That stove does look kind of "newer" than the one I typically have seen a ling on...

Must be that great artificial reef building society we have going on in the State! :la:

Last time I was there I remember the stove looking rather "new" too. It's next to the one I remember, but it was definitely new to me. I don't dive there all that often however, so who knows?!

In other news, the VW has certainly seen better days!! Soon it'll be a "drop-top!"

Well, my mistake then, I didn't realize there was a second stove! Now I have a place for my first back-in-the water dive (sadly not for ~6 weeks yet :-({|= )
