dive site(s) possibilities?????

Post by PapaZ »

A. We are looking for dive site(s) for a group.......
What are your recommendations????

1. 15-25 divers maybe
2. facilities for changing into/out of dive gear
3. parking for a small-medium bus (one day bus trip driving over Snoqualmie Pass with members of a couple dive clubs on board)
4. optional: dive shop for air/nitrox fills in the area

EUP = Parking, Bathrooms, close shop for fills...

Keystone - Parking, HOT showers, cafe, no fills near

Redondo - Parking, Bathrooms

On the west side of hood canal at Sund rock. They have a 6x6 sani can. parking for small bus. $10.pp week days $16pp Fri. Sat. Sun. payable at hoodsport dive shop about 5 minutes away. You could check with the shop to see if they give special deals for that many divers

Saltwater State Park. Plenty of parking, huge diving area, accomodations for bbq if you want. Down sides include a long walk/swim to the descent areas and current sensitivity.

Redondo ... has everything you're looking for.

Last July we had a club dive that put over 50 divers in the water, and the site's spread out enough that it didn't even feel particularly crowded ...

If you need lodging for a weekend the Yellow House at Hoodsport would probably fit the bill if it's not spoken for. Inquire at Hoodsportndive.

I'd back Bob's vote for Redondo, or put Edmonds as a second choice. Edmonds has the advantage of having some nice, inexpensive restaurants within walking distance, so you can hike up the hill and spend your surface interval sitting around a fireplace (if you're lucky enough to get those seats). Edmonds is also a HUGE site, so if you are willing to do your entry in several different places (involves a modest walk) you can see entirely different portions of the place. Edmonds is mildly current-sensitive, and not fun to dive on very low tides.

All the sites mentioned so far would fit your bill. The biggest drawback to Edmonds is parking, whereas the biggest drawback to Saltwater is that the park tends to close early, around 4 PM these days as I understand it. Last time we got caught with people in the water when they wanted to close the park, we got some major hassle from a Barney Fife wannabe who actually took a photo of my license plate as we were leaving.

All in all, Redondo is probably your best bet for what you describe.

I'd go with Redondo. The parking is great for a group. They have several boat/trailer spots that would work for a small bus lots of restaurants just up the hill or Salty's right there as well as two dive shops nearby for fills.
