I'm not sure, but I am assuming you are talking about Clear Lake in Oregon. They used to not plow the road in the winter time, so even if the lake wasn't frozen over it would be a real pain to hike your gear down from the road (http://maps.google.com/maps?q=44.369284 ... 10879&z=17). However, I looked on the Clear Lake Resort website (http://www.campingfriend.com/clearlakeresort/) and they now mention winter cabin rentals. So. perhaps the roads are being plowed down there year round.

There have been some pretty big storms up on the pass in the past week or so, I heard Mt Bachelor had nearly 40 inches in 24 hours last week. So the snow base is much more extensive than it was a month ago. Oregon Department of Transportation runs a nice road condition website (http://www.tripcheck.com/Pages/RCMap.as ... onditions#). Its a good place to go to check the road conditions and cameras. Here are the closest two cameras to Clear Lake (http://www.tripcheck.com/popups/Cam1.as ... tiam%20Jct) and (http://www.tripcheck.com/popups/Cam.asp ... amera=1354).

I'll be up near there snowboarding on Friday, but you won't catch me in Clear Lake until the spring. I've heard the lake is a bit less clear in the Winter with the heavier water influx stirring things up a bit more, but I'm sure it would be an interesting dive. If you are doing it in a freediving wetsuit I would be wary, even in a dry suit the lake is very cold. If you do decide to go and are looking for some information on the dive let me know. I have an old local dive guide book that has a helpful map and description of the lake and topography. Good luck :).

we have dove under seven inches of ice...in febuary....in the dark
underwater artesian spring temp (that fills the lake) is 38F in the summer
people live in the caretakes cabin year round
diving off the boat ramp is not allowed...use the trail to the water at the south end of the park (cabins to the north..picnic roof to the south)
