Playa Del Carmen recommendations

Post by BUZO71 »

I think I'm heading to Playa Del Carmen in April... any suggestions? I'm looking for a dive shop and also a place to stay. I speak spanish so staying on the economy is fine (no need for resort)... thanks!

I'd jump on the ferry and cross over to cozumel. The diving is much better, dive with Aldora Divers, stay at the Plaza Hotel Cozumel. Just my 2 psi

Awesome. Thanks. I was also thinking about Cozumel... I also wanted to do the cenotes as well though. I'll check out those places out. Do you think the dive op is better than Scuba Club Cozumel? Let me know how it works out...

I don't know how Aldora compares to Scuba Club Cozumel, but I have had a great time with Aldora. The tanks are 120s, I have never had more than 5 divers on a boat, and the dive masters are great. All the dives have been close to 90 minutes and very relaxed!

Scuba club runs big "cattleboat" type dives. I prefer the ops with the smaller fastboats, with 6 divers max. Aldora is one of many such ops on cozumel. Tres Pelicanos is another, as is Deep Blue, and many more. Aldora is one of only 2 ops that I am aware of that dives steel 120s and steel 100s, as opposed to the al80s used by everyone else on the island.
