Drysuit undergarment socks
Drysuit undergarment socks
I have been using some polypro socks with my drysuit undergarment but they don't slide very well into my drysuit feet.
I am thinking about getting some lycra socks hoping that they will have less friction.
I'm wondering what other people are using?
Thanks,
Mike

I use hiking socks ... the kind that are rated for -30 degrees. You can pick them up at most outdoor shops for about $12.
Oh ... and Weezle booties over the socks ... they're the best undergarment bootie I've tried yet ...

2 pairs of Fox River wool socks. Comfy, reliable, and warm even if they get wet.

My Santi 400 booties are super warm and thick but they tend to make my feet too light! I've compromised with the 200 weight. For a long dive I'll wear wool socks under them.

I use two pairs of SmartWool Mountaineering socks and they slide great into the drysuit socks and keep your feet extremely warm. These are probably the same or similar to what Bob (Grateful Diver) uses.
Not sure what they run, but you can get them at REI.com

To dive? Or not to dive?... the latter is irrelevant! Get in the water!
Re: Drysuit undergarment socks
I just wear regular gym socks, one pair, nothing special. I have a pair of undergarment socks that came with my 4th Element Arctic, but I don't use them.

Re: Drysuit undergarment socks
I normally wear wool boot socks and my feet stay warm. When wearing my DUI drysuit, I slip a pair of neoprene socks over the wool ones for ease of donning/doffing the suit... what a difference it made!

Re: Drysuit undergarment socks
I tried a lot of options -- dif types of socks, dif combos of socks... and was always cold.
UNTIL a friend let me borrow his Fourth Element Arctic socks. They come in ankle or calf length. He gave me the calf length to try and... after one dive I jokingly said, "Dude, you're NEVER getting these back..." I was blessed with them as a gift; he said he didn't like the higher riding socks anyway, and preferred the ankle versions he had. :luv: SCORE.

Now, my feet are the LAST thing that get cold. And for me, if my feet are warm... the rest doesn't seem so bad! On my "want list" is a top and bottom in the Arctic line as well. They are really awesome; thin but amazingly warm.
The inner is soft and fuzzy, the outter is lycra so they slide right into the feet of my White's Fusion drysuit.

Re: Drysuit undergarment socks
One more thing for people with chronic cold toes to remember is the old saying ... "if your feet are cold, get a hat".
There's some truth to that. While getting good foot protection is important, remember that most of your body heat is lost through your head, and a good hood will help you feel warmer all the way down to your toes ...

Re: Drysuit undergarment socks
Thanks to everyone for your replies and suggestions.
I don't have a problem with my feet getting cold I have trouble sliding them into my suit.
I'll look into the Fourth element socks and the weezles.
Thanks again!
Mike

Re: Drysuit undergarment socks
You might try the 4th Element Hot Foot socks (http://www.fourthelement.com/dry_hotfoot.php). They are about the same thickness as the Artics, but shorter and have a slick outer coating that helps them slide in and out of drysuit booties easier. I have them and like them a lot.

Ya got a pair of these I could try? Or is that too weird, kinda like borrowing someone's skivies?John Rawlings wrote:Weezle Boot-Packs! Toasty as all get-out and slide in easily.

Tom,
This is a sport where it's OK for two burley men to complement each other on their 'underwear' in public. So I think it’s OK to borrow somebody’s socks……
