Argonaut Kraken regulator by VDH

As many of you know, I enjoy restoring and diving vintage gear. One of my favorite regs is a modernized DH reg with a Pheonix 1st stage.(So, not really considered vintage.)

Now, the same company that makes the Pheonix, Vintage Double Hose, is also preparing to market and sale a completely new Double Hose reg design. I am not sure when these will be for sale, but I'll try to keep folks around here posted. For you serious photographers and video people, it might be of special interest.

Here's the thread from VDH:

So would the exhaust be behind your head?

Yes, that's how double hose regs work :)

Yeah, like Capt. Jack, that's how the design works. It's also why they're very popular with underwater photographers.

Jonathan Bird explains better than I can:

OK ya I can see why they would be popular, sometimes I get tired of bubbles in my face also!

I'm looking forward to this too. My Phoenix has plenty of dives on her.

Will do Herb. And you're welcome to the DH collect while I'm out of town.

I love my Pheonix HPR. All the reviews are saying the Argonaut is in it's own new class, so I'm giddy as all get out to dive one. VDH makes great products and has some of the best customer support I've ever encountered, so I'm certain a whole reg from them is going to be awesome.

That would look awesome on some double 45's. Have to say, I'm a bit jealous since there's rarely anything like that up here.

Anyway, here's some photos of the reg in cold water.

I'll keep posting here as I learn more.

Safe Diving.

Vintage Double Hose has just started a crowdfunding effort in order to get the Kraken into final production.

If anyone is interested here is the link:

There is also a new set of photos of the reg being tested in Lake Michigan. That can be seen here:

Figured I should update this since it's been a few months:

For those who are wanting to follow the development of this reg, perhaps following the VDH facebook page would be easier, however the links above still work, but it seems you'll need a VDH user id to see the photos.

If anyone is interested in how a regulator operates or how the various pieces are engineered to work within the reg body and stages, I'm finding the Argonaut developement totally fascinating. I have a copy of Phil Nyutten's HDS article on the early Aqua Lung and comparing the new to the old is fun for me. Right now on VDH, the builders are talking about a tool that was custom made to polish the valcano orafaces. It's pretty amazing stuff for a grass roots effort.

Nope , I've had my double Hose down to 155 feet ... Breaths the same at any depth... BC hoses are the same Fittings
