New, high value & affordable handheld dive lights

Post by mheyns »

It's that time of year again, and both Dive Right in Scuba (DRIS) and Dive Gear Express (DGX) have released new versions (or the case of DGX their first version) of a high power yet affordable handheld dive light.

DRIS have replaced their old 1000 lumen model with the Impact light.

1000 Lumen: http://www.diverightinscuba.com/catalog ... -3380.html
Impact light: http://www.diverightinscuba.com/catalog ... light.html

I have both and the old model was amazing. Rugged, stood the test of time and various scrapes, bangs and bruises and insanely bright for such a small and affordable light. The new one costs about the same ($100), has a short body (with rechargeable batteries) or a long body with 3 Cs, and best yet, the light head itself is replaceable, so you can switch between a spot and a video light. Having tried out the video light-head, it's a perfect and diffused circle. Very nice.

DGX have just released their competitor as well. The DGX Handheld 600 light.

This seems to have the exact same LED chip that the DRIS lights use, so we're probably talking similar light output, and includes a free rechargeable battery and charger with the light. All for $50, so half price of the DRIS lights.

Worth checking out both of these as they both boast a powerful output for the small form factor, reliability, and cost.

Both manufacturers also sell Goodman handle variants for you to mount the lights to, and both can easily have a bolt-snap attached.

Happy diving!

I just bought the dris 1000 and should get it tomorrow. Although, now I'm interested in how the divegearexpress backup holds up.

I have a DGX 600 on order as well. I just replaced my dead big blue can light with the dgx 8700, and if the quality of the 600 is anything like the 8700 it should be an excellent light for the money.

The UK SL3 on the right, DRIS on the left. Big difference!
