Using a shop compressor for inflation testing

Post by 60south »

Some of you have probably known this since Before Scuba ... but it's new to me!

I wanted to leak-test my drysuit and was looking for a way to inflate it that wouldn't drain a scuba tank. If you have a shop compressor with a blow-gun nozzle that has a removable tip, an LP BCD inflator hose fits perfectly.

Voila! Infinite air...

I like it. You actually don't need much pressure to find leaks. My current favorite method is taping an old dry glove that I cut a hole in to the end of a shopvac hose set to blow. Attach dryglove and hit the switch, suit is full in seconds!

Very cool! My favorite way to find drysuit leaks is to shine a light from the inside of my suit and see if I see light shining through :) It often works!
