anyone ever had a suit worked on by Oregon Underwater?

i need new seals on a suit i picked up and am exploring my local options. if anyone has any feedback on Oregon Underwater, good or bad, i'd appreciate hearing it. you can PM me if you'd prefer.

They service my Aqualung regs and my Cobras and do a fine job. No experience with them and drysuits though.

Have you tried it? I've just been using contact cement and a fan to keep from passing out. The "no fumes" part definitely makes that stuff an attractive option.

Yes I have used it and will never willingly go back to seal cement again, its super easy,
Clean area to be glued with MEK
just cut tape to length, (leave a bit of overlap,)
remove protective cover from one side of tape,
place where you want it and heat with clothing iron or hair dryer,
let set a few min.,
remove other side of protective tape
place were you want it and heat again,
use a small roller and work your way around taped area.

let it sit for a little bit and its good to go .

Took me less then a half hour to install a set of wrist seals and they were ready to dive. I istalled a set of wrist and a neck seal on Marie's suit and will not mess with wet glue again(seal cement/pb2000) I need to get a extra set of seals and tape and through in the SAD kit. Best parts are that its fast, easy to install, and NO MESS. I usually end up covered in glue and the suit looks like crap after words with glue everywhere. You can remove old seal or just cut old seal at glue line and install new seals right over old after cleaning area with MEK. There are some videos that are linked from Dive right ins site that shows it all.

You don't NEED to take the old seal off. The think part that is glued to the suit is usual in pretty good shape. As he said, clean it with MEK and put the new seal over it.

Keeping the old seal in place would probably be your best bet anyway, as this tape doesn't adhere to neoprene. In spite of that I'm pretty sure this is one of the greatest inventions ever - glue always seems to have a mind of it's own in my house!

well, it's not a neoprene suit, but the videos on DRIS advise leaving the old seal on, anyway.

update: i got the seals and adhesive tape and gave this a try. end result:

FAIL.

i had no problems getting the tape on the seals. getting the damn tape to adhere to the suit was problematic. the tape needs a very smooth surface to adhere to, and the areas around the cuff where there were seams and such prevented this from happening.

so off to the shop it goes.

if anyone wants to buy a neck seal and a wrist seal with this tape already attached, let me know. i'll give you a good deal.

i did. the seams and tape underneath the existing seal created ridges and bumps that the adhesive couldn't form to, which caused gaps underneath. and that was on the existing seal that was in decent shape. the other existing seal was badly degraded and probably would make an even worse surface for the tape to adhere to.
