Oregon dive this weekend

I am planning a dive this weekend but can't leave Portland until 1pm. Are there any dive sites in SW Washington or Oregon that are close enough to dive that late in the day? I know a lot of people go off the jetty in Barview, but with the weather turning to wind and rain this weekend it might not be a good spot.

OUCH! Brutal tides this weekend - You'd be diving a hard outgoing tide at Barview, especially diving that PM. You should probably head north to the canal or sound.

I didn't look at tides before I sent the link to Netarts. With new gear it may be a better Idea to hit one of the close lakes in SW Washington. On the Canal you will be doing a night dive leaving that late from Beaverton.

You could try Lake Merwin. It's east of Woodland, WA.

Here: https://maps.google.com/maps?hl=en&q=la ... authuser=0

It's a good place to try out new stuff and is within your time frame. There are large logs and rock piles on the bottom. Not the most amazing stuff but closer than the sound.

The jetty at Barview is pretty unforgiving on a calm day. With the weather and tides predicted out there this weekend it (and the rest of Tillamook Bay) is pretty much undiveable.

A 6'1" swap there? Ee gads. Maybe we need a sign: "You must be taller than the swap to ride this site." No, wait, that doesn't work... "The swap needs to be HALF your height or less for you to ride this ride." LOL.

Have fun.
I'd try and crash your dive trip but I already have my weekend planned. Here's a link to some info about Speelyai Bay Park which is where you'll be diving. I usually park at the far end of the lot and then enter the water to the right (west) of the docks and ramp. There's a little trail that leads down to the water.

Dave, nice to see we are thinking alike. I sent Scott the same link in a PM. :partyman:
