Welcome Oregon Divers!

Post by spatman »

welcome to our very own sub-forum. NWDC's oregonian contingent has been slowly growing and some of us (namely me) have been feeling a need to stake out a corner of cyberspace to firmly plant our state dive flag.

feel free to post Oregon-centric questions and comments about local OR sites, find nearby buddies, arrange transportation, and, most importantly, discuss why OR beers are far superior to all others.
:occasion5:

enjoy!

Big Cliff Drift Dive about 50 miles east of Salem (less than hour from Clear Lake?).

Stole this from someone elses website. I can't findthe writeup I did years ago..

This is a fresh water dive, an altitude dive, and a drift dive. We will be going approximately 1/2 mile upstream to enter
and drifting down to the boat ramp. The speed of the drift will depend upon the flow rate from the dam. There should be schools of fish and overhanging banks to see, along with whatever has been lost by fishermen. This is a popular fishing
area so look out for boats when ascending and fishing line while submerged. Carry a knife or scissors in case you get tangled in old fishing line. This should be a wild ride if the current is strong.

I have dove the Clackamas river (to look for my camera I lost. found 3 days later at 28 feet). But not suited for rec diving.
I have also dove the Deschutes River right below Oak Springs for a producers camera. He needed to produce it to get his warranty. We found it! but not suited for rec diving.

funny you mention this. i just contacted Salem Scuba and signed up for their email list, with the express purpose if finding out when they were planning the next drift dive. apparently september and october are the best months.

i'll put up a thread when i know more.

Cove 2 and Redondo are also popular Oregon diving spots.

Nice try :la:

I'm curious about fresh water dives, so maybe the clear lakes.
I saw some of narcosis Junky's photos taken in a lake, just got my new housing and wide angle lenses, can't wait to try them.

usually 2-3 hours with an MOD of 1ffw. you can go longer but you'll get into an margarita obligation, and really long dives will get you into straight tequila obligations.

We were in Garibaldi last weekend and he said he was quitting business this month, due to health reasons. I hope someone else picks up the business.
