Wow! We saw so much great stuff last night north of the pier! An hour in 10-20 feet... Are you kidding me?? Awesome.

Bob -- Thank You for getting me out to The Dond for a great dive. One of the things we did was to trade cameras for a minute or two and Bob took one shot of the little wolfie:

I got some of my favorite shots -- gunnels in things:

I got to sit in on Laurel Lefever's NW Critter ID Class last Tuesday (3 more lectures are coming -- if you haven't taken this class AND want to really enhance your OW diving, take the class -- Bubbles Below, Tuesday nights for the next 3 weeks) and he had a picture of a starfish spawning -- I think this is one (if it is not, I'd like to know what it is):

That second one is fantastic Ron. It has an amazing feeling of depth.

My pics on the other hand, well what can I say. Sometimes it just doesn't happen.

Did a nice little swimabout with Kathryn last evening ... 97 minutes total. Weather's starting to murk up the water a bit ... vis was about 20-25 feet. Spent about 20 minutes down in the 60-70 foot range ... looking for the little juvi wolfie I'd been seeing recently ... didn't find him. So we came up shallow and spent the rest of the dive looking for other little things. Found a few ...

You north of the MaST? We didn't see any lumpies south. A Grunt, a couple of reds and a snailfish but no lumpies :(

And since I always take pictures of what you do.....

We went in at the boat ramp, did the bottlefield and then worked the eel grass south. Tons of tubesnouts and a several pipe fish (couldn't get a focused shot of one) and I'm sure we shot the same poacher but between 3 of us didn't see a single lumpie.

BTW thanks for the inspiration to head into the eel grass; it really adds to what one sees and makes for a nice way to end a dive!

That's basically what we did too. There's been a tiny wolfie hanging out over there ... roughly in front of the fishing pier at between 60 and 70 feet ... for about a month. Much smaller than the one on the other side. Didn't find it this time.

Seems to be lots of pipefish over there ... we saw at least 8 or 9 ... as well as probably a half-dozen lumpies. The one pictured above is the largest lumpie I've seen yet this year ... fully grown, I'd say. We found most just below the eel grass ... in the kelp.

BEAUTIFUL pipefish picture, Bob!

I have got to get out there and do a lumpie dive when we get home.

So a third wolfie? A week or two ago we were told that there was one around the stacked tubes but we didn't find it and wrote it off as a gunnel. I have seen some absolutely tiny octos the past couple of weeks but haven't gotten a good photo yet.

I met up with James, Kim and Jeff at 1830 to try out the south side of Redondo. It was a great, 77 minute dive with a lot of lumpies in the 8-12' range.

Thanks Ron, Jeff and Kim (onefish) for a great dive. Kim found the one item I've been aching to see, a big, beautiful snailfish. She also found me an awesome big meaty pipefish. I decided to leave the 10-17 fisheye on the camera for the night dive just so I can get better with it and although the results are less than astounding, it's always a fun lens to use.

Image
This was my favorite shot. Less silt and better lighting and it would have been really nice.

No one wants to model for me so I have to do self-portraits.

These things are so adorable.

I was wondering when you posted a hermit crab. Must not have been a good night.

Great detail on the snail fish, James. Probably the best pic I've seen of one!

Looks like I need to either wake up early or stay up late. Time to plan a dark dive for the 'Dond.
