Lumpies at TTN

Post by gutholmj »

Kim (onefish) and I headed over to TTN this morning to check things out. Vis is still holding up pretty well. I was surprised to find 20-25'. The other surprise of the day was finding a lumpie hanging out in the kelp. This was during the day.

I'm still forcing myself to do nothing but wide angle. The lens doesn't come off the camera until I've mastered it! It's sad that the best pics are the ones that Kim took of me.

Nice! TTN sometimes produces some nice surprises. I recall a dive where me and Penelope were about 10 feet apart ... each waving our light at the other ... because we'd each found a lumpie we wanted to show off ... :joshsmith:

Every now and then I see the beginnings of an eel grass bed at TTN, but they never seem to grab hold and produce.... not sure why.

Lumpie hunt at Three Tree wouldn't be a bad idea, but I've come up empty so far. I'll have to hi-jack one of Bassman's night dives and stay shallow and lumpy hunt.

Tom, I've seen many, many lumpies at Three Tree. They are mostly shallow but have seen them down to 60fsw or deeper. They hang out in the kelp mostly. The first one I ever saw was here on a night dive but the rest I've seen during the day. The smallest one I ever saw was here too-it couldn't have been bigger than a pea.

I'm guessing that I'm not turning over the kelp enough!

The one we found was sitting right out in the open on top of the kelp when I first spotted it. I saw it from probably 6 feet away.

I was distracted by the large, hideous beast in the photo...........
